Let's hear your BETTER ideas for Part III

So the 1991 movie ends with them FINALLY being the rock stars that will change and shape the future.

Their wives both have sons.

Take it from there.

make Death president and their kids are messed up, i guess that would be the bttf2 that the future is messed up approach

reply

I was thinking that their kids could be rap artists and fall into the trap of black culture and they need to be rescued from that and return to their rock roots (a metaphor for white culture in general.)

reply

i doubt current Hollywood would allow that , more likely to rescue them from Christian Rock

reply

If they did that there would be a smoking crater where the film once was, but then years later it would rise like a phoenix and become legendary.

EASY...FILM OPENS IN THE FUTURE...BILL & TED HAVE ACHIEVED THEIR DESTINY...ALL IS RIGHT..EXCEPT THEYRE BOTH UNHAPPY AND JADED...AND THEN DEATH SHOWS UP FOR THEM...FORCING A NEW TIME TRAVEL ADVENTURE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE/HOW IT ALL WENT WRONG EVEN THOUGH IT WENT RIGHT...THE LOSS OF THEIR MENTOR RUFUS IS A KEY PIECE OF THE MYSTERY.

My better idea would have been to leave Bill and Ted in 1991 and let Alex Winter remake The Gate instead of having to be a part of Keanu Reeves Woke Mid Life Crisis.

Have Bill and Ted be happily retired and just enjoying life. Maybe they feel a little nostalgic about the past, but they're otherwise living good lives after achieving their musical destiny and making the world a better place. Then two new characters from the future arrive in their time to collect them, and Bill and Ted journey with these new characters to pick up historical figures throughout time to help these youngsters with their future history presentation. Maybe after helping with the presentation, they could get stuck in the past and realize the value of everything they've achieved during their lifetime, ending with them watching their younger selves leave on the very first trip. That's when death arrives to tell them that their time is up and we see them playing twister in the afterlife.

It's not too far from what this movie tried to achieve and it serves the same purpose of hitting a lot of nostalgia points.

Biff Tanner gets in the time machine and changes history so that Bill and Ted never existed so Bill and Ted have to find Biff all throughout time to stop him from ruining the future.

They become co-presidents and then they attempt to take their message worldwide. William Shatner plays a character who launches a worldwide campaign against them, attempting to use their own phone booth against them, but the three of them get stuck together in a time vortex that eventually causes Shatner to change his ways and party on.

Bill and Ted III: The Search for Rufus

Rufus has disappeared and Bill and Ted get asked to find him. They travel through alternate dimensions and space looking for him using the phone box. They visit some previous locations and see old characters but not for too long. They also visit different places in space and time. At one point they hide and see themselves meet themselves in a scene from a previous film so that there were actually 3 Bills and Teds. They keep hearing Rufus’s voice through the receiver (clips from Carlin’s old stand-up and interviews). Eventually they realise Rufus doesn’t want to be found and sometimes you have to accept that people want different things and changes have to happen even if they are difficult. The theme ties into a subplot about them not being ready to accept that their sons are growing up and taking different paths in life and that they are getting older themselves. This is what then inspires them to write a song that brings everyone together through the message of respecting other people’s needs and differences, about being young and old, about the importance of close friendships but also giving people space when they need it. There is a shot of a body double of Carlin in the distance watching them so the audience knows he is ok because he knew that his disappearance was necessary to inspire them.
