Age Difference

First off, I enjoyed this movie. I liked the commentaries on celebrity ego, male and female relationships, women vs. men and treatment in the news/entertainment world. I'm sure that all of these things were explored rather accurately. However, when portraying an age difference between men and women, a 41 year old woman cannot necessarily play a 35 year old woman. She's great looking. Lovely, slim, elegant. However, skin that has been in the sun does NOT look young. Check the rapid aging of Mel Gibson who was a beautiful young man but has not aged well.
She really did look like she was robbing the cradle. A 13 year rather than a 6 year age gap will do that.
So, same thing that was said for years when older men played opposite much younger women, if it's not in the script, then it loses something and detracts from the movie. And, she was too young for Mark Harmon!

reply

Wow.
I think her skin looks great.

I'm 21, and if Mark Harmon called, I'd go running to him. He is an incredibly good looking man. My 17 year old sister agrees with me.

What's your favorite pizza topping? Mine's plain, but I like others!

Totally agree with you, about the female lead,Tabari.
Well, except she isn't that great looking- could be beautiful
if she had an iota of body fat but she did grow on you; had a great smile.
I think Hollywood sometimes has a seriously warped idea about what reality looks like. As a 32 year old woman I could really tell that The female lead was not even close to my age. Hello, I have no facial wrinkles yet! I do not find dating people ten years younger than myself at all appealing - beyond the flattered factor, it is just too dysfunctional and beneath my level of intellect.
Limestone girl,
Mark Harmon is too old to date 30 yr olds, much less 17yr olds. Gross, just gross. Some girls have serious daddy issues. That doesn't mean he isn't an attractive older man- esp. with his natural silver hair color. But admiring how someone looks doesn't or shouldn't immediately equate to wanting to bop them. Is that a cro-magnon thing or a stripper thing?

I think you are misunderstanding the appeal of Mark Harmon. He is a good looking, funny, and decent human being. I'd like to think he wouldn't want to be dating anyone at the moment (and if you're married to Pam Dawber, why would you even consider it?), but if he were, I'm sure he wouldn't be that interested in teenage girls. It is the decency that is appealing, and sadly lacking in many younger men who still haven't learned to be comfortable with who they are and play too many games when it comes to relationships.

i'm 42 and i agree, the actress looks her age and nowhere close to 35. but i think it is the fact that she'd not just hollywood rail thin but seriously underweight that ages her. she needs to gain a few pounds, and yes, take good care of her skin and she'd look younger/healthier/prettier. the age difference was extremely pronounced. but i didn't see that as a problem in either case, not with byron and not with the walking hair.

and hells yes, mark harmon is still sexy.

Mel Gibson lost his looks due to booze and cigarettes...not soley due to age. he is in his early 50s...and they are plenty of actors in that age group who do not look like the bad side of a road as this guy. Plus..I think God gave him beautiful looks..but his ugly soul won out...and it shows.

You pipple mek my ass twitch

reply

lol - you used my favorite movie line - "listening to you people makes my ass twitch", and it does. These are all good looking adult people... who cares about an age difference, as long as we're not talking about a 13 year old with a 20 year old? I mean, it's the 21st century people! Can't we get beyond trivial bullsh** ??? So what? This movie was adorable.

reply

You're quibbling about a 6 year age difference from the actor's real age to her movie age? really? so what. and so what about Mark Harmon's age, and everyone's age. It's trivial in the whole scheme of things.

Thanks for all these comments, everyone. Very educational & insightful. I got to sit back & enjoy simply watching the film for a couple hours, and now I get to come here & soak up some insight into how other people see things. Really.
