A very unique piece for its time

This movie was a very interesting to watch. With a focus in a more underground aspect of New Orleans. The director managed to create a classic cinematography feel to it which is a very refreshing thing to see in a more homogenous bombardment of movies who have the same lighting methods and camera angles.

I have seen other reviews on the movie calling out their concerns about having fairly well known actors not being used to their full potential, I disagree with their assessments, movies are not spotlights for certain people to have a stage to further the career, it is a opportunity for great actors to paint a story and transport the audience into their world which was done decently well in this movie.

Some things that I felt were not done as well as I would have personally liked included character background. I understand that the past is supposed to be more mysterious but some more background as to how the mc got to that point in his younger self would have been nice. And at times the pacing for the movie was off. Not a perfect movie to my likings but considerably better than some of these other raters would have you believe.

Oh look a troll with an original insult showing his intellectual individuality. Quick someone record this screen name for more jewels in the rough. If you didn't lake the movie, don't watch it again, simple as that. Otherwise calm your tits and move on.

HAHAHA..."a piece unique for it's time..."

hahahahahahaahhaahahaha.

Yes, right up there with 'Casablanca,' 'The Departed,' 'Avatar.'

So unique we had to watch that retarded female lead chew gum and talk at the same time while way over the hill Jason Patric listened to her.

Yeah, never seen that before.

Clearly, it's unique because it's the first movie you've ever seen.

Okay so I do have to agree that the OPs review was a little vague and didn't REALLY describe the quality of what I remember seeing on the screen. However I didn't think it was a steaming pile derived from a farm animal's digest system either.

It was a direct-to-video movie by any measure that I know of, written to a formula like oh so many others. Former spy/bad guy/hitman/ninja/tough guy trying to save/avenge his child/girlfriend/wife from some bunch of evil dudes. Is this movie memorable? Not really. Did I feel cheated out of 2 hours of my life? Not really. I got to tune out the world and forget about my life and work for a while and thats what I was looking for.

Anyone that watched and was disappointed should have taken 30 seconds out of their lives to read the IMDB synopsis and they would have known what they were getting in to.

Back in the 70s, 80s, and even the 90s you couldn't always tell if a movie was bad or not before seeing it in theater or on video sometimes. However in this day and age there is NO excuse for unwillingly watching a bad movie. That is one of the core reasons we all come to IMDB in the first place. Buyer beware!

Seems you're not allowed to have an opinion, judging by the morons who have lambasted you -ok ,it wasn't a classic, but I've seen worse.Too bad we can't return the favour in person to those idiots.

I rarely write a review or comment on IMDB but some things just tick me off.
This movie was not the best movie out there and it's not unique whatsoever but ...
it had good cinematography and a feel that few movies lately have.
Was it perfect ? Hell no. But it was a lot better than what most people here say.
Don't mislead people into thinking this is crap. If you read the synopsis and you see the trailer and decide to see the movie based on that, it's not gonna disappoint you.

7/10.

I would have to agree with you. It wasn't total crap. I knew what I was getting myself into when I had it mailed to me through Netflix. However, as direct-to-dvd movies go this was better than most that I can recall recently. At least, Jason P. put some effort into his role. I can't really say much about Bruce W. who probably did more harm than good, generally speaking. Bruce's character probably should have been played by an actor of less credibility. Perhaps, someone "more hungry" would have made a better and more believable antagonist.

Oh, and what was up with John C.'s hair in this movie? One would think that the movie was made in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina.

This movie was a major disappointment for me because with fine actors like Jason Patric, Bruce Willis and John Cusack, I had had much higher expectations going in. The script sounds interesting, but I think the fault is with the screen writer and especially the director. Admittedly it is just action movie and I don't expect much logic just like Superman or James Bond or Terminator or Harry Potter flicks, but the presentation and cinematography of this one are just sloppy and make it so un-engaging. In addition, the female lead just totally ruins the movie for me: she has no looks, no charms and no wits - perhaps she got the job because she had relationship with the director or one of the producers somehow, LOL.
