No scuba tanks - ?!?

Perhaps someone can shed light on why the Canadian Coast Guard is portrayed this way - Getting certified to dive with scuba tanks is not a big deal if you can swim with any kind of proficiency, and can handle the hardware...

I was slightly baffled too.. The Canadian coast guard does have scuba capability.. That whole scene confused me as far as logic went.. What are the odds that aarine rescue arrive before road vehicles? Why was the father not in the water already? And I forget what kind of authorization they were waiting for but it was nuts..

A number of years ago on the B.C. coast there was a big stink about some rescue personnel who waited to go into an overturned boat because they didn't have the authorization to go in such an environment. I believe there a child drowned in it.

The divers in that incident didn't have the backup required by the Canada Labour Code to do a hazardous dive until SAR Techs arrived 90 minutes later.

Five people, including two children, died.

CCG rescue specialists on the 47ft motor life boats are not divers and don't typically use scuba tanks when entering the water, much like the USCG rescue swimmers.

Come on folks its a show. When I have surgery don't think they act like they do on Greys or walk in And meet a Dr like house....although that would be a riot.

because they are a quick response and tehse coast guards are not scuba divers normally they are not the ones to go into the deep water for rescues thats why at the beginning of the first episode they made the choice to attempt to save the the kids and family instead of waiting for the actual rescu teams.
