The most bland game of all time?

I like this game. I really do. But essentially, it does nothing knew. It takes EVERYTHING from EVERYTHING ELSE.

It starts with the familiar template. Space marines going up against some 'alien' baddie. Yeah they weren't really aliens here but it comes down to the same thing. Art direction is Aliens + Starship troopers. All the guns have been seen before in other games in one shape or another, even the lightning gun bears resemblance in use to some of the Painkiller weapons. Like always the marines are macho American pricks and for some ridiculous reason the baddies are British one-dimensional sadists.

It's clichéd as hell. It polishes the cliches very well. It plays and looks fantastic. But does a little originality hurt? Is it a bad thing to have COLOR in a shooter? Shouldn't there be a story that goes in deeper than muscular Americans with gravelly gritty voices trying to sound funny while killing 1 dimensional badguys that are really, really, really evil (the game makes this clear a billion times)?

The colours are all there, man. Check out difference between Visari Hammer and Blood Gracht, in fact every one of the multiplayer maps have a distinct theme and colour tone. Sure, they're all stark but you're in the middle of a war zone so what do you expect? Rainbow Island or The New Zealand Story?

It's meagre colour is brilliant in how it depicts the brutality and senseless side to warfare. If any game translates Band of Brothers to the screen, it must be Killzone 2.

And typical American heroes? In the end the Helghast turn out to be just a bunch of indoctrinated cannon fodder in a struggle to defend their homeplanet. The ISA are just as wrong as the Helghast are.
