A more clever film than it appears

I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Given that it had basically no nudity and, shockingly, no uses of the F-word, it had to get by on innuendo and suggestion. And it actually did that quite well.

There were also some subtle and even subversive jokes. Not to mention some that were so subtle as to likely completely miss their target audience of teenagers and twentysomethings. For instance, the students attend Gerald R. Ford High School, which is an obvious riff on President Ford's reputation as a bit of a klutz and the cheer team's clumsiness at the start of the movie. However, I'm guessing that very, very few people under the age of 35 (unless they're political science or history geeks, like me) would even get that joke.

All in all, a surprisingly enjoyable bit of fluff.
