What Fighting Styles would you like to see for season 2?

The remaining episodes will be about Krav Maga, Marine Corp Martial Art, Kung Fu, Sambo, Bokator, and Silat.

I would like to see them do a show on Systema, a Russian Martial Art, during season 2. What other fighting styles would people like to see next season?

reply

Ninjitsu, the real kind.

I'd like to see more Korean styles like Hapkido and Kuk Sool Wan (pressure points), Vita Saan and of course, western boxing as a form of street self defense.

Dim Mak!!!

reply

Right, dim mak or death touch would be cool, but what about the 5 point palm exploding heart teqhnique? As for real styles (if dim mak was real would you really want everyone to know it?), Haidong Gumdo, and Kalaripayattu would be cool, the other thing is most armies have their own style nowadays, they have kind of taken over where old school dojo's left off. If they could get some international armies in I'd be glued to the screen.

Yeah do an episode about Hokuto Shinken.
Really though, If they do an episode on Dim Mak I'll boycott this show so quick......

Dim Mak isn't a fighting style, but a specific technique. It goes under a variety of other names (floating punch, poison hand, etc), but is simply a short range (as in a couple of inches) power punch. I've had the technique demonstrated on my using a San Diego phone book as padding. A light punch rocked me back a good 3-4 feet, and hurt like a sonuvabitch. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a full force one.

And for martial arts in season 2, yeah, capoeira, definitely. Maybe some kendo, too.

Kali/arnis and combat ki (the latter, just so that I can see those two hosts take more hits)

capoeira would be cool.
(would be interesting to see duff doing it^^)

reply

Tae Kwon-Do or Jeet Kune Do, perhaps Kendo too

reply

Do you know anything about it?

I haven't taken "Dim Mak" but I used to study something called Ryu Ku Kempo. And a lot of that (other than the boxing and stick fighting) was pressure points, joint locks, bending, twisting one's arms, legs into positions that hurt a lot.

That sh!t ain't fake. It hurts. It hurts bad if done well.

Maybe I'm confusing pressure point fighting with Dim Mak, but I thought they were the same thing. And I can tell you right now that it works. I've had it done to me and I've done it to others.

A lot of pain from just controlling someone's wrist or arm.

If you are talking about "no touch knockouts" yeah I'd agree, it's fake. But knocking people out (or at least severely stunning them) by hitting them in certain body parts is very real.

It's common sense. There's certain points that if you hit them, hurt more.

reply

Capoeira would be really interesting, but I'm not sure how the whole "match" would be done. Maybe a proper angola scarf and razor type thing (just without the actual razor), but it would take a long time to get them to an okay level at all. They'd suck at it.

reply

I would like to see Kempo in season 2.

reply

Drunken Boxing, hands down.

I have always said that traditionalist can stand up and hold thier own against a Mixed Martial Artist in a life or death match.

I have trained in Shotokan Karate and Krav Maga and Kali. I enjoyed the Krav Maga episode cause Itay Gil said to Chambers" you don know S*** about self defense. Ring sports are fun but in combat they are worth almost nothing.

I am the co-instructor of H2H and CQC to our Sherrifs Dept and I can honestly say that they have used Traditional Martial Artsin both Patrol and inside the Jail and it has saved them from major bodily harm..I can not see where MMA offers a realistic presentation of realworld applications to violent situations.

Jason and Duff both have had it handed to them time and time again..i.e the Krave Maga.Karate...Chembers in the Judo(which he is a juijitsu practiotioner) and even the Muay Thai and Escrima..All have shown that Traditional arts still prevail..

I hated the Pankration episode..i thought it was Junk...

I was happy they did Pankration. Unfortunately those new stupid rules cost Bill the win. This show seems too eastern biased. Of the eight episodes so far only two are western. The rest are either from the east or derived from eastern martial arts. Hello people there are western styles of fighting. Scottish Backhold looks awesome. Bata, Gilma, Limalama, Kas-pin, and Red Warrior should all be tried. Hell, maybe even good old boxing and wrestling. Just more western styles please.

I'm usually sticking up for traditinal arts to MMA folk. But I'm on the other side of the fence here.

You are completely dismissing MMA. I think both traditional arts and MMA definitely have assets that can assist you in self defense.

A fair portion of MMA is wrestling, grappling, takedowns, and that's straight out of a self defense handbook. And anyone who knows how to throw a punch or kick (muay thai) is definitely in a good position.

I definitely think there's a difference between protecting yourself and trying to win a fight, but I think you dismiss MMA way to easily.

You say "hold their own" as if they could go toe-to-toe with a professional fighter. Make no mistake, professional fighters know how to hurt people. They get paid to fight. They know more about actual real time combat than someone who practices techniques and doesn't use them.

For a practicioner of traditional martial arts to "hold his own" against an MMA fighter I think the fight would go something like this. The MMA guy who straight up kick the traditional guys ass, or the MMA would dominate and the traditional guy's only chance is a lethal tactic. They might "win" but never outclass a pro fighter.

They did Kali/arnis in the very second episode, under the name Eskrima.
I'd like to see Haidong Gumdo, Capoeira and the Brazilian Kombato.

I used to take Ryu Ku Kempo, and a part of it was Arnis. I couldn't believe they actually did it full contact and with metal sticks. That was insane.

I never dismissed MMA...I do however believe that a sport cannot be compared to real life or death combat!!

I believe the nature of a ring sport offers good training. But I have seen where time and time again "Traditional Arts" defeats "MMA"...

If you beleive that a Mixed Martial Artist can defeat a Martial Artist I believe you are mistaken..

I have trained with people that have went on to win MMA events and I have trained with thse that teach our special forces to kill..and I assure you my friend that In a life or death situation I will take the Traditional Arts over MMA Anyday!!!!

Commandako... it's the martial art they used to teach our special forces guys. Basically it's the fighting version of judo and has a lot of dirty tricks stuff mixed in. It is very similer to cali.

Fahqu, Scottish art of headbutting someone to the ground and kicking them. Where would hooligans be without it?

Capoeira and aikido would be nice.

No love for Northern Praying Mantis?

Capoeira would be great, but I don't think either host is agile enough to pull it off. Glima might be interesting. I wouldn't mind an episode over 52 Blocks or Systema. Florentine fencing would be cool if they do another weapons-based one.
