Does this movie makes you sad?

Hry,

I watched this movie a few times and it always makes me sad. Why?
Do I recognize myself in shapiro? Maby a bit.

But does anyone else feels sad when watching this movie?

reply

This movie was pretty depressing, TBH. Mostly cause I DID recognize myself in Shapiro. A little bit anyways.

It made me sad that I wasn't taking a shower with Stephanie.

Depends on how you look at it. Things didn't turn out like Shapiro wanted them to. That's sad. But Shapiro knows that's not the end of the world.

He knows there's better days ahead. The trick is to be able to ride the rough times out until the sun shines again.

Also, he's a magnificently talented drug dealer. He will never lack for cash. He has a very bright future.

I didn't find any of the main characters likable, that condition kills ANY film regardless of story.

Also, no one had any integrity. Chasing drugs and sex, with no apparent intellectual sense of purpose. The teenagers left to themselves by broken parents. Not the kind of people i'd want to be around or have a loved one be around. So yeah, i agree - this movie was saddening.

I actually found it quite uplifting.
Sure they have problems but they are evolving.
They make it through and face up to it, all the while TRYING to make the best out of something they have ultimately deemed to be depressing and futile.
I'm not sure if I could say their endevours had an "intellectual sense of purpose", but so what?
I mean that sounds to me like they are not robots analysing there next move and choosing the one that is most beneficial to them - And that's not a bad thing, that's just a human thing, especially when people are appearing to me like lost souls.
We're all broken machines and some people literally cannot make sense of the world and make their decisions in order to escape.
Some people are perfectly fine with the boredom and monotony and can see a purpose for themselves and have the kind of mind that enables them to exist within this reality and prosper. Good on them but often they are the most souless people around, whereas somebody who is 'lost' or 'broken' is the most alive.
As far as I'm concerned the constant confrontation of their problems and philosophical nature of their conversations and thought processes, and the respect they both seem to have for wisdom is a great thing for me.
I would take wisdom over intelligence every time if I could, and there is an aspiration towards that from the two main characters in this film imo.

It stirs up memories of being young and 90`s nostalgia, which kinda make me a bit sad as I`m an old antisocial miserable git now. But this is a nice little film.

If you keep an open mind, you`ll discover dark secrets.

I cried a little when Luke's watching the kids having fun on the rooftop. Reminded me of how lonely I was when I was in my teens.

reply

Yeah, this movie did make me sad in that it was so dreary.

I actually found it very hopeful, both for the teenager and the adult. They were both free spirits who realized they didn't have to stick in bad relationships or conform to society's demands.
