Too Smart for its Market

The main reason why this film has received so many poor reviews and low rankings on this site is that it simply did not meet the expectations of the people to whom it was marketed.

This is a thoughtful film... a film that cares more about its characters than flashy, choreographed fight scenes. The problem is that the type of person who went to see this movie isn't looking to think, but to be mesmerized by flashy fighting, of which this film has almost none.

This is a movie about relationships, believe it or not. Unfortunately, it was marketed to 14-27 year-old men, who couldn't give a damn.

a film that cares more about the characters? Sorry but the character development was slow and boring and pretty much TYPICAL, I've seen much better action movies with character developement and flashy choreography.

The movie is about relationship? Sure and it was damn slow and poorly paced and cliche.

No people don't give a damn because aside from some good cinematography the movie was complete *beep*

Oh btw flashy choreography isn't easy.

i agree with your comment. It seems like most people compare it to Never Back Down and Underground. I've seen a bit of Never Back Down. That movie is trash, with ridiculous fight sequences that have no ground in reality, but are viscerally exciting to look at. This movie worked for me for the reasons other people don't like it.

That's fine, of course. I can imagine it being frustrating to see a movie that's not really about fighting called Fighting if you're looking for a movie full of over the top fighting. That said, I was pleasantly surprised when I caught it on HBO.

I agree. I just watched this movie and really enjoyed it. I went into it with no big expectations. But it was a very well acted, well executed movie. Channing actually held his own next to Terrence Howard. And of course beautiful Zulay should become a big star soon.
