no contest for me overall...

Never Back Down is definitely better simply because 'Fighting' (2009) is one of those films you would only care to watch once, where as Never Back Down i can watch more than a few times and still like it.

bottom line...

-Never Back Down = 7/10 (thumbs up)
-Fighting = 6/10 (not bad, but not good enough to recommend)

p.s. and keep in mind 7/10 is usually my cut off point to where if i go below a 7/10 i typically don't care for it all that much. a 6/10 is usually one of those films i consider to be 'good for tv' more than going out of your watch to watch on DVD etc.

yeah man, never back down was surprisingly good. fighting on the other hand, was mediocre at best. the only reason i would even call it that, is cause of terrance howard's performance. that guy's great in any movie.

reply

I actually kinda enjoyed both but I felt that the fights in fighting were much better and actually intense...I am looking forward to what this director could do with a "good" action movie.

Never Back Down had me wanting more after watching it and better character development. Fighting was good though.

Guess I will be the minority and go with Fighting. Why? Because NBD seems like more of a high school flick fighting seems more mature and for adults personally.. What I can classify in NBD is a bunch of snooty rich kids duking it out for the rich girl..Thats all find and dandy I guess, but in fighting I see a guy getting his respect and climbing up the latter to fight his most number 1 rival it just interests me more I guess.

Syory both movies suck. I pick Blood and Bone!!!

'Never Back Down' is decent, but really it's just a shallow teen drama with a basic 'Rocky'-inspired sports movie plot and several 'Karate Kid' cliches. A bunch of vacuous rich kids fighting out of boredom (no wonder it's so popular amongst teenagers.).

This part of what this guy wrote is right. And it's pretty well done, for what it is. NBD is watchable and a solid entry in its genre. Fighting is just bad at everything.

reply

I have never seen 'Never Back Down' myself, but if it's a half-decent movie it must be better than 'Fighting'.

Fighting feels fresher and is more realistic. For some maybe Never Back Down could be more standard "fun" I guess, but Fighting is the better movie. It was not lazy and stupid and you could tell there was some passion in the making of the film.

reply

there was some passion in Fighting however, it's slow and cliched. The story is boring and so are the fighting scenes.

NBD is a much better movie and is a much more entertaining movie then the dreadfull bore of Fighting.

reply

2 completely diffrent movies, 1 is ripped to pieces for being too realistic therefore boring, the other is completely un realistic therefore awsome ... Personally enjoyed them both for very diffrent reasons

reply

I'd say 'Never Back Down'- a much more interesting movie as a whole. Still, both are pretty average movies.

Fighting.

You could believe the characters in Fighting were real people, as opposed to cutouts in NBD...

Both are pretty awful movies but I liked Never Back Down more just cos of the mma type of fighting seem to have have more of an interesting story line. I hated fighting just a lame boring storyline, shocking acting and even worse fighting.

reply

NBD is far better, it ain't even close.

reply

I preferred NBD by a whole lot. It's just a more entertaining (albeit more goofy) movie for me. I thought Fighting was more depressing than anything, while NBD was fun to just sit back and watch. Also, even though it was more choreographed, I liked the fighting more in NBD; the ones in Fighting were too muddled for me.

Finally, NBD had Amber Heard, which is always a plus :)

It probably depends greatly on how old you are and what kind op person you are, because even though they are both brawling movies, they are quite different.

Critically, fighting was much more sucessful

Fighting:
Rotten Tomatoes T-Meter- 41%
Rotten Tomatoes Top Critics- 54%
Metacritc: 61 (indicates generally favorable reviews)

Never Back Down:
Rotten Tomatoes T Meter- 24%
Rotten Tomatoes Top Critics-20%
Metacritic: 39 (generally unfavorable reviews)

Overall, I liked Fighting better. Never Back Down was fun, but once it was over there was nothing that really made you think. Fighting actually left somewhat of an impact on me and I connected with the main character a little bit. One is a meaningless romp, the other is a gritty urban drama.
