Terence Howard playing a coward?

I noticed that he was acting strange, myself. Then he told how he was ruined by the other 3 men he had partnered with in fighting. So I gathered that he was made a coward, a man with a broken spirit humiliated by his former friends. So this was wonderful revenge for him.
