I really liked this movie but some of the writing did not make any sense

I always liked this movie (I have seen it many times over the years).

I just get annoyed at certain parts of the movie.

Like when Shawn just made $5,000 off his 1st fight, and then his 2nd fight gets broken up (by a shooting), he (Shawn) starts crying about how he really needs money. This makes no sense in my mind, because he just made $5,000 off of a fight the other day, so why would he already be desperate for money, and crying to Harvey, saying that he really needed the money from that 2nd fight.

It also made no sense on why he would be crying about nobody getting paid from that 2nd fight.

Think Shawn, the fight was broken up, and there was no winner (you did not win), so why would anyone get paid? That part just seemed really stupid to me.

Another thing is that Harvey told Shawn that the winner of his 3rd fight (against the Korean fighter) would make $30,000, and then after Shawn won that fight, Harvey only hands him $10,000. I understand that Harvey should get a cut of the $30,000, but not that big of a cut. Shawn should have at least gotten $20,000 of the $30,000 that he was told that he would be paid if he won the fight. And then after Harvey hands him the $10,000 (and Shawn asks him when his next fight would be), Harvey starts saying that Shawn could sell concert tickets (or something) until he finds Shawn another fight. I am thinking, why would Shawn need to be selling any concert tickets, when in my mind, he has at least $15,000 in his pocket (from his last 2 fights that he won, that seemed to be very recent).

Anyways, the very end was kind of stupid too (I thought), with them taking off with the entire million dollars, and not at the very least giving back the $500,000 of the original betters money.

And I almost forgot about the $100,000 that Shawn should have got for winning the fight. What happened to that money? Why was Shawn not paid that $100,000? I understand that he may have been paid, but the money did not show it. It only showed the 3 of them taking off with the action money (the $500,000 bet, plus the $500,000 won off of that bet).

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie (and watch it from time to time), but I just did not think the writing (at times) made much sense.

Thanks for any thoughts about this.

I didn't like the ending either. I would have ended it in the ring in a more exciting way like after he wins he's rushed by his friends who hug him and stuff. Eventually he catches eye contact with Harvey who gives him a look that pretty much tells the story that he's a deadman before turning to leave but then stops when he sees Zulay with the bag.

Harvey then turns back to Shawn and the two exchange smiles and then the credits roll.

but yeah..oh well.
