Nice scenery but nothing else!

A pedestrian story which almost put me to sleep. A waste of 90 minutes. I kept asking myself why the female lead would be attracted to a jerk like the protagonist. An annoying man. In fact, the entire Viking crew were absolute losers. Not my cuppa tea.

I think you may have missed something. When the 'loser' thought he'd lost his wife he realised what really mattered and eventually she accepted him back after she saw again what attracted her to him in the first place (she still thought he was annoying though). The fact of the matter is that he actually gave a sh*t about her, unlike the smarmy, lying, cheating P.E. teacher who was exposed as the true loser even with his flash car and hip-hop CD. One thing as I think someone has already said is that the 'real' swordfight simply would never, ever, ever be allowed to happen in real-life, even if both men were trained, true professionals. But it was inevitable and necessary to the plot I suppose (it couldn't have been done in secret and in the dark for then it wouldn't have been a comedy). I do think it would have been better for someone at the re-enactment to have called the police on their mobile/cellphone (sort of mirroring the opening scene) and for the boys-in-blue to have arrived just in time to have missed it, and then to find that each potential eye-witness denies everything!

It's no "Brassed Off" or "Local Hero" for sure, but it is, nevertheless, my can of Carlsberg in a drinking horn. I liked it. And I bought it.

"Oh look - a lovely spider! And it's eating a butterfly!"

PS I know of a real-life 'Roman' re-enactor who is such a Trekkie (sorry "Trekker") that he has actually sat, in full costume (Trek costume) in Captain Kirk's chair in a replica Enterprise bridge exhibition set! No kidding!

I agree. it looks nice but it makes you feel nothing, at least that was the case for me.
