Juanita Bartlett
Though the "Sordid Lives" series is sort of a mixed bag so far, Del Shores has written some very funny material for the very funny Sarah Hunley who plays perpetual barfly Juanita Bartlett.
Having Juanita's laundry delivered to her at Bubba's bar was hilarious; having it be a stack of several blouses and skirts identical to the one she wears all the time was hysterical; having her wonder, in all seriousness, which one she should wear tomorrow was brilliant.
For me, the highlight of each episode is finding out what stream-of-conciousness ramblings are going to tumble out of her intoxicated head. Although none has yet reached the pinnacle of her "rooster" monologue from the film, the one about the midget shooting off her friend's breast while jitterbugging runs it a close second, and her inebriated wrong number calls to a radio station contest are a hoot as well.
Taking nothing away from any of the other performers (I am a big fan, but honestly, some of them are less gifted than others), I applaud Mr. Shores for creating such a wacky world, and especially to Ms. Hunley, who takes that wackiness to a whole other level, and then knocks it right out of the ballpark!
