The only film to make me cry in a long time.

I am a 25 year old man and I have watched this twice now and both times I can't help but cry, it literally floors me. The acting in this, particularly Garfield's is incredible. I'm not entirely sure if I can bring myself to watch it again.

I haven't cried to a film probably since the Neverending Story. Even grave of the fireflies didn't do much for me. Can anyone suggest any other films I might get incredibly emotional over?

Watched it for the second time today, ordered the DVD. I feel exactly the same, very moving for me, particularly the scenes with Michelle, made me cry too.

Yeah thats true, I feel that she really would of helped him in life and to overcome what had happened (still left up to the viewer of course on how much involvement he had). But it makes me feel hollow inside. Most films depicting suicide invokes that feeling in me.

If you still want to see other "emotional" movies,

1. Good Will Hunting - The last scenes killed me. It was generally a fun movie until the last 30 minutes or so, and I started bawling along with Matt Damon. Great *beep*

2. Atonement - Devastating. The kind that makes your chest feel squashed. So far, all my female friends (along with myself - I am a chick) consider this movie to be the most heartbreaking thing ever, but all my male friends refuse to watch it/don't find it appealing to watch. But do give it a try if you want your heart shredded :D

3. King of Devil's Island - Won't make you cry out right, just depressed for a while.

4. Life is Beautiful - I watched it by chance. I didn't want to watch it initially but now it's one of my top movies ever.

5. Days of Glory/Indigenes - Different take on a war movie with uncommon subjects (North African soldiers fighting for France).

Honorable mention:
Warrior
American History X
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
The Pianist

Nothing here that's suicide related though, and I'm not sure if it's going to have the same effect as Boy A.

i also would recommend grave of the fireflies its anime movie and definatily the most depressing and saddest film ever.

Hate to sound rude, but the OP did say they'd seen Grave of the Fireflies and it didn't do anything for them.

I was hit hard by this movie too. I didn't cry, but it's left me with such a bittersweet sadness that it will stay with me for a while. I can't believe I put off watching this movie for so long, it was incredible. And Garfield was brilliant.

You heart me? What is that? Is that like I love you for pussies?

reply

Try 'secret in their eyes' beautiful boy' 'the hunt' or maybe 'disconnect' recent watches that at least left me on the edge of tears and i consider to be fantastic movies.

You can't miss out Watership down and plague dogs?

I would definitely have to recommend "the green mile" Tom hanks, my wife cries every single time she puts it on. I'm actually surprised nobody else has mentioned it yet!? :)

American History X - anger
Animal Kingdom - damage/shock
Children of heaven - tears
Crash - tears (although only 1-2 scenes)
Finding Neverland - tears
House of sand and fog - tears/anger/total damage
Jagten - huge anger
Life is beautiful - tears
Lilja 4-ever - anger/tears/total damage
Ordinary people - tears
