Michelle's 'sickness' [SPOILERS]

One thing I don't get...

Jack and Michelle are all lovey-dovey in bed. Then he goes into work and finds that Michelle has called in sick. But at that point, the big newspaper article hasn't been printed, and nobody at work knows that Jack is really Boy A. Yet she has called in sick, and then she ignores his calls and doesn't answer the door to him when he goes round later.

It's only the next day that the newspaper article appears and all hell breaks loose - Jack's boss tells him he's sacked, Chris disowns him, the press are at his door, etc.

Did Michelle know the day before? If so, how?

Good question... Presumably journalists contacted her the day before publication for comment.

She was probably contacted by the press. Or it could simply be incontinuity, but who knows? The press did show up at his work to take the picture for the seperate article, so maybe they were able to put two and two together.

Possibly. But I don't think he had those sort of details. Just the name.
Terry wouldn't have been so unprofessional as to leave details like that lying around. His son only got the name because T said it once while drunk asleep. So I think the son phoned the papers, told them the name and location, and they did the rest.

It certainly isn't explained as clearly as it might be. But still a great prog.

If I remember correctly, Terry's son stole some papers and Terry's laptop, didn't he? I seem to remember something about Terry asking him how he got the password, and the son said that it was taped to the bottom of the computer.....or some such thing. No?

reply

Yes, that's what happened. That was the biggest flaw of the film for me. Who the hell tapes their password to the bottom of their laptop? You're just begging for trouble. I thought that bit was a little too convenient (and stupid in regards to behaviour), but I was willing to just roll with it because the movie was just so good.

You heart me? What is that? Is that like I love you for pussies?

In the book it's clear: she figures it out by herself, because in his nightmares he was calling out the name "Angela". At first she thought he was cheating on her, but when she saw the article about Angela's murderer being freed and the "aged" picture of the murderer, she pieced it together.
