Ok I am on eposode 3 but still don't understand who is lady Adelaid and what is her relationship with Timothy? Who exactly is he as well?

Timothy is the local squire. He isn't exactly nobility, but he seems to qualify as landed gentry. The series portrays him as far wealthier and more influential than a local squire would have been.

Adelaide is his snooty, fashionable wife.

Thanks! I figured it out through the next few episodes. And realized why it was a little less than obvious without giving anything away to others.

He is a baronet. He is Sir Timothy Midwinter. He is not a peer, but is a member of the gentry. "Squire" is a generic term. The local squire might or might not hold a title.

I always get British titles confused. I think Lady Adelaide has a title in her own right, otherwise she'd be Lady Midwinter.
