Israeli Arab Muslim - Omar; his family was targeted by Islamic Bedouins from the West Bank

Israeli Arab Muslim - Nasri, younger brother of Omar

West Bank Arab Muslim - Malek, undocumented Palestinian boy from the West Bank working in Israeli restaurant owned by Abu Elias; had the pocket watch

Israeli Arab Muslim - Binj, funny cook at restaurant, died from drug overdose; girlfriend was Israeli Jew

Israeli Arab Muslim - Nizar, Binj's brother; Nizar stabbed the Israeli Jew; the Israeli Jew was the middle-aged man with glasses who complained about the bleeting goats while Nizar and a friend were smoking a hookah and listening to music with the volume turned up loud

Israeli Arab Christian - Abu Elias, the restaurant owner who was trying to resolve everyone's problems, he was the volcanic mediator

Israeli Arab Christian - Hadir, daughter of Abu Elias; secretly dating Omar

Israeli Jew - Dando, officer whose brother was a missing Israeli soldier, found dead

Jews comprise the overwhelming majority demographic in Jaffa, but the area has a strong presence and mixture of Muslims and Christians. It's a mixed area, Jews and Muslims and Christians and other minorities live together.

The film focuses on the polycultural texture of the Arab minority and their intersected relationship with their Israeli neighbours.

Duly note that the film takes place in Israel (majority Jewish). Ajami is a very old neighbourhood in Jaffa and Jaffa was stitched into Tel Aviv decades ago.

Binj is actually an Israeli Arab Christian, rather than a Muslim. There are two things that indicate this. First of all, there was a Christian icon (face unclear, but with an orb around the head) hanging on his wall, and, secondly, his real name, as we hear at one point in the movie, was Hanna. Hanna is a Christian Arab name (the Muslim form of this name is Yahya, and they both mean "John").

Binj is an Arab Muslim and we know this because his friends criticize him for being an Arab Muslim who's having a fling with an Israeli Jew,and because his brother's stabbing of the Israeli man is considered an act of Islamic terrorism.

Hanna can be an Islamic or Hebrew or Christian name. The etymological origin for "Hanna" is "Hanania", which is Hebrew.

Yahya can also be an Islamic or Hebrew or Christian name. The etymological origin for "Yahya" is "Haya", which is also Hebrew.

"and because his brother's stabbing of the Israeli man is considered an act of Islamic terrorism"

what kind of racism is that ?!! You are talking about terrorism, go and read a book to know who are the real terrorists !!

All the Arab characters except Malek are Arab Israelis (that is, Palestinians with Israeli citizenship). In terms of religion, Omar and his family are Muslims, whereas Abu Elyas and his family are Christians. Dando and his family are Jewish Israelis. Malek is a Palestinian from the occupied West Bank.

According to Wikipedia, Jaffa is 74% Jewish and 26% Arab in terms of ethnicity. However, the Arabs are concentrated in the Ajami neighbourhood, so it's likely that the percentage of Arabs is much higher there.
