Picture this

I just watched this movie with my daughter (almost 10). We didin't really like it.

Okay I got what I expected_ a typical romantic teen movie with all the clichees these movies have. I thought theses movies just don't teach the right things to young girls:

a) the best looking and most popular guy at school: yes, maybe we all want this dream guy, but that's what he'll stay, a dream guy, whereas the person who suits you best might be the loser rights next to him. Any movies out there which show that the supposed loser get's the girl (Right now I can only think of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, not really suitable for youngsters). And, of course, sometimes these guys also stay dream guys for girls as they turn out to be gay.

b) So this cute most popular guy seems to be going out with the nastiest bitch in town.
Why does he do that ? And even if she was the nastiest bitch in town it is not right to go after him if he is in a real relationship with her. This might sound naive as it happens all the time, but I'd prefer this hot guy to be single and maybe both girls competing for him in a movie for younger kids. I know that Drew stated that he doesn't belong to Lisa, but the overall concept I conceived was that they were meant to be a couple. So either I misunderstood the situation or the filmmakers didn't make a good job in telling the story.

c) The girl opposite the bitch has to be a nerdy type - from ugly duckling to beautiful swan. And how - only by changing the looks. But what really counts should be personality. And this never comes across in these movies, it only matters how you dress, how you look - that is so superficial.

d) Parents - well this dad here took it to the extreme and comes to his senses in only a day ? Dream on.

I know films like that are meant to be like fairy tales, where there is the prince in shining armour, the witch, the ugly duckling who rises to be a princess. But it can be done better. I guess "The Princess Diaries" did a much better job than this one.

And - what was most distracting for me (and that is my personal opinion) - was that Ashley Tisdale just reminded me a lot of Sarah Michelle Gellar in her Buffy role.

For what the film was, it was more or less alright, but I wouldn't watch it again. Admittedly this is not my type of movie. I'm too old for this s***
