a few shocking things for a disney movie

so because this is a disney movie, starring disney stars, most notably ashley tisdale, you would figure this film to be quite kid/tween-friendly.
For the most part it is, however i was shocked to hear a few things in the film considering the innocence you would assume.

first of all, a couple of boys were referring to the character of mandie as a 'hump and dump' and a 'hit and run.' also, mentioning her nice 'boobsicles.'

also, when mandie is talking to drew about lisa and her piercing scream, it was obvious drew meant it in a way that did not portray fear, but hinting a reason for his knowledge somewhat sexual.

so next mandie's friends discuss the possibility that drew only likes mandie temporarily, as he is using her to continue a ritual discussed as 'deflower in the shower, in the tower.'

when the girls venture to the mall they have an encounter with a man named bruce working in a furniture shop. once they are done in the store, they run out laughing leaving bruce calling 'hey, whatever you girls are on, can i have some?' i do believe his comment to imply drug use.(although in regards to drug use, we can most likely infer the girls were NOT on anything, it was just the comment that was surprising)

and, a minor detail, yet still shocking: mandie's dad finds his nephew watching some sort of 'girls gone wild' tape in the bedroom.

The most logical answer is this probably was NOT intended as a Disney/ABC Family TV movie when it was written, or even being filmed.

Most likely, Ashley read the script... Along with hundreds of others... And decided she liked the part of Mandie (because I believe the character is very similar to Candance on "Phineas & Ferb" which means she really didn't have to stretch her acting chops much). This movie probably was intended to go straight to DVD, but I am pretty sure Disney snatched it up because AT is in it and wanted another title under their belt to promote another one of their "stars" -- Sooner, or later AT is going to break out from under the Disney label and be her own actress... Just like Lindsay Lohan, and Anne Hathaway.

reply

actually, this wasnt a disney movie at all, even though ashley is in it.. everything she does isnt going to be for disney. she can do other stuff.. and as for abc family, it was a straight to dvd movie and they decided to shut it on abc family.. they cut out one part of a scene in the movie that wasnt appropriate to show on tv, but abc family does show things that were a little inappropraite in the movie, for example in the secret life of an american teenager or 7th heaven.. so yeah.. just thought id say

the thing is is that kids do talk like this, so whats the big deal

how old r u? lol 'somewhat sexual' haha it was obviously about how he had sex with her, and if not it was just a coy comment to flirt with Mandie.

Maybe you should pay a little more attention because it is not a disney movie and it is rated pg-13

i dont remember hearing that this movie was ever labeled as a "disney movie"...all i know is that ashley tisdale is in it and that ABC family showed it.....no where did i see/hear "new disney movie 'Picture This' starring Ashley Tisdale"......all i saw/heard was "Picture This starring Ashley Tisdale"....not one time did i hear the label "Disney movie" connected to it.....they might have mentioned "Ashely Tisdale from High School Musical" but that was not using the words "DISNEY MOVIE"...so it is no way connected to the disney channel/company.....they did the same to zac efron when he did "hairspray"....they mentioned "high school musical" but never the words "disney channel/movie" with the movie "hairspray"....just cuz they connect the actor with a disney name...it doesnt mean that the new movie that they are in is also connected to disney too...so why are there losers labeling this movie to disney just cuz ashley is in it??

reply

Were there any other "Disney" stars? Because as far as I could tell, the other main stars are all Canadian and some are stars on Degrassi (my fave. show) and Life With Derek (which IS NOT Disney even though it is on the Disney Ch....). Ashley Tisdale was one of the few cast members that was from the States...

It might be technically Disney owned because it's ABC, but that doesn't mean it is actually Disney produced...Disney owns a lot of other companies, such as Touchstone (the company they used in the 80s and 90s when they wanted to make more "adult" films...)

disney owns abc family.

They also own Touchstone which was specifically created to produce and release R-rated films.

They're trying to cover the entire market, with the exception of strictly adult X-rated movies.

Yeah it was slightly shocking I intended to watch this with my niece she is 11 and may not get the jokes and terms.I guess its up to her mother now. There was one more comment that was said at the yogurt shop when the one girl was telling the girl behind the counter how to get Mandie to drink the macadamia nut yogurt smoothie. "I don't care tell her its orgasmic" Also the part when the 3 girls do some sort of ritualistic curse using Marylin Manson's blood. so I think they should have edited this a little more on abc family.

People already stated the obvious here, but I want to add to something.
Yes this was shown on ABCFamily. But this channel has TV-14 shows, airs older movies up to rated-R, and come out with their own original movies rated TV-14 as well. So why wouldn't they air this the way they did?

guys, honestly youre over-reacting. its a TV movie, and they rated it for teens. teens make references to sex and all that stuff all the time. this movie may be targeted to tweens, but some people that young dont even get the jokes. so theres no worries. they'll figure it out eventually when theyre older. its not like the content was that bad. they were pretty subtle.

and everyone! this is NOT disney. i think everyones just flipping out because its in the title of this thread. but im going to change it..for mine anyways.

This isn't Disney... This is a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer(MGM) production. Ashley Tisdale isn't always with Disney.

reply

i agree with tonythetiger122. after all even if it isnt a "disney" movie it was on fox FAMILY channel. i was shocked as well.

reply

catteyes0115 you mean abc family right!!!

reply

oops...right that is what i meant....my bad. Did it used to be fox family? maybe i just made it up in my head.....whatever. you knew what i meant! lol thanks!

reply

you are welcome catteyes0115 and it used to be called fox family channel back in 2002 i believe!

reply

The movie was executively produced by Tisdale's company "Blondie Girl" Films - the movie was produced and distributed by MGM. Just because Tisdale is in it doesn't mean it's Disney.

Do your research before making such a stupid post.

calm down! my god, you dont have to be rude. dont take that i said 'disney' so seriously. jeesh spaz

As a not, I thought the screaming was meant as the girl being angry and screaming around him all the time, be it at him, or on her phone to her friends. I think this movie was a very refreshing take on this style. Pushing the envelope and being edgy as opposed to how boring and white-bread safe most of the Family/Disney movies are.
