The plot was diabolical....

*spoilers*

So our hero is busy planting explosives on the gas pipes to blow up the nearby city - We never know why, maybe to kill the infected? And also we never quite know how a few sticks of dynamite can nuke a whole city several miles away... Let's hope Al-Qaeda don't learn this trick!

Anyway, he receives a transmission from a woman trapped in the city but says he won't help her.

With less than 24hrs left till the city blows up a pair of soldiers turn up and convince our hero to go into the city with them to rescue the woman before the city blows up. Why? Because she holds the secret to a cure for the virus... What are the chances of that!

Anyway, one of the two soldiers die on the way in, and the other stays with the body. Our hero manages to find the women and in escaping, just in the nick of time, the remaining soldier turns up to save them both from the creatures...

And now the uber scripting kicks in... The soldier shoots our hero (a number of times), informs us that infact the ONLY reason they wanted to rescue her was - ready for this... sit down now! - to kill her. They like the way the world is now, and don't want things fixed.

So, the woman was trapped in the city, the city was going to blow up in a few hours... No one was going to rescue/save her, so they convince someone to go into to rescue her, risk their lives as well going it to save her, all just to kill her...

Dear God!

Yea, I thought it was pretty horrible too. As to why he wanted to blow up the city, maybe he was bored? I got nothing..

Blowing the entire city up wasn't a big problem, while it wasn't explained outright, you can see he's pinpointing the citywide gas lines. Without security you've got enough time and resources to plant such a scheme, that was an interesting concept. If you don't believe gas explosions can do such a thing, search for "Mexico City San Juanico explosion", or "Guadalajara gas explosion". The San Juanico one wiped out an entire neighborhood in the late '80s.

As for the guys wanting to kill her, well... there was "some" explanation, they watnted to rape her, then kill her ... but even then, sheesh! Risking your lives just for a one-night-stander?? Thats really, really desperate; and even more stupid to go for that, and then kill her.

Its kind of taking the soldiers from 28 Days Later with a bad twist.

Hmm. Seems to me the soldiers from 28 Days Later had a bad twist all their own. They were gonna force an young girl and a woman to be their sex slaves. Seems pretty bad to me.

(yes, I know I'm replying to an old post, but that statement just jumped out at me)

reply

Mate, please tell me that that the twist is in no way connected to the book. Cause I'm gonna go and see the one with Will Smith next week and I don't want to know what's gonna happen.

Go to the loo, 'cause all the *beep*'s coming out your mouth instead of your a-hole...

Actually made me laugh out loud

If you applied half of the intelligent criticism that you displayed toward "I am Omega" as you do to "The Abyss" we wouldn't be arguing on that message board right now.

It was junk. stupid plot.
