subject matter uninteresting to most
I watched this movie at a friends house. I knew nothing of it beforehand and had not even heard of it. Actually I thought we would watch a new Jackie Chan comedy. So yes I was expecting a laugh filled evening. However when it started I was disappointed to see that it was a drama. Right off I was stunned at the hairstyle Jackie had. They had given him some oafish peasant bob that threw me at first. Then I realized aha, he is supposed to be a poor immigrant. The subject matter was of absolutely no interest to me. With his modern comedies he aims at an international audience. This works fine with me. But this movie appears to have been made to appeal to the Asian market. If you are not interested in this area of immigration and problems thereof you won't be interested a bit in this movie. Jackie may be morphing into the dramatic stage of his movie making career. I know eventually he will have to get out of the action stunts he is known for. Age and wear and tear will do this to a man. Another thing and yes this is just my humble opnion, but when Jackie tries to be serious or dramatic he puts on a totally blank hang dog face that comes across to me as very sad looking. I've seen him do this in other movies. Yes, I like the man but his dramatic shots just made me sad. If his future dramatic ventures are like this one I won't be viewing any more.
