Jackie Chan proved he can do a serious movie

This movie rocks! I've been waiting for a long time for Jackie to do a serious movie because I'm sick of the lame comedy / martial arts gimmick movies. This is a fantastic movie with intriguing storyline. Daniel Wu totally stole the show.

Yup, it's a great movie indeed.

However, I'm hopeful that Jackie would do something to polish up his acting skills for his later movie projects. This is my personal belief; that chiefly because of his martial arts background and also the types of movies that he had done before, Jackie still needs to work on his drama-related acting skills.

I'm not saying that Jackie isn't good; or that his acting is worthless. I'm saying, he could further improve his current acting skills to a much higher level.

When drama's involved, Jackie needs to be fairly more intense in his dramatic portrayal of his movie characters.

Somehow, I'm still hoping that Jackie or any other Asian actors could match and eventually exceed the likes of Al Pacino, especially for the latter's performance in the movie, Scent of a Woman.

In the meantime, I'll simply be keeping my fingers crossed ...

I don't agree. jackie Chan still prove he has no improvement in his acting, still poor.

Daniel Wu stole the show, yes.

reply

^ I dont agree. I believe he has gotten alot better as a dramatic actor through this movie, and I would love to see him act in more serious roles. He's still a bit stony in expressions, but he's getting there.

Don't worry. You might actually do some good before you die.

reply

He's getting there, yes. He still has trouble crying on cue though.

True. Don't even compare Jackie to Seagal.
I know he has, now that I think about it didn't seem so bad in this film. Can't wait to see it on dvd/bluray.

This is a pretty good film, but not great. I do get the point that this is a "serious" film for Jackie Chan, but I didn't think his acting was that great. He looks, acts, talks similarly in most of his films, this film wasn't an exception.

Jackie Chan proved he could do a serious movie YEARS ago when he did the great film CRIME STORY. Alot of people seem to forget about alot of movies Jackie Chan has done in the past and only focus on his "Hollywood" films.

reply

It remains me of Police Story in a way,but that one was way better and jackie was awesome, i think even Police story 2 was good enough and than came this movie after all these years of comedy/action ,a bit of drama it suits him well i think.

Roz, my tender, oozing blossom, you're looking fabulous today-Mike

Jackie Chan did a phenomenal job in this movie. That's all there is to the story

reply

What are you talking about?
JC had always been a serious actor before he went to Hollywood.
Check out the movies he made before Rushour I II III

you guys must be new fans.

check out "gorgeous" and "crime story" he's shown his acting range well before.

but to be fair, he is getting old. and those days of the Chan era with crazy stunts and fights have since passed. some think he has a few in him. but we're not him. i'm sure he has plans for what HE wants to do now. we can't deny he's definitely been in it for the fans a large part of his life.

See 'Heart of the Dragon' for serious acting from Jackie. He plays a guy looking after his mentally retarted younger brother played by Sammo Hung. Also Crime Story and Project A showcase his acting abilities. I wish he had more recognition as an actor, he's done some great work.

Venom's Fan, I'm not a new fan. I've been an admirer of Chan's work for years now.
"Gorgeous" and "Crime Story" were excellent. In fact, it was "Heart of Dragon" that got me to notice Chan's great acting skills.

So, I've always known he is a good actor.

I'm sorry but this movie was terrible. I give Chan credit for trying to become a serious dramatic actor (and he succeeds to a certain degree here) but so far it hasn't resulted in any good movies. He needs to get himself a good story and work with a director that knows how to use him (IE not sh*tty).

I'd rate Rumble In the Bronx higher than this movie (GASP!) and I think that's a terrible movie, but I'd rather watch that 10 times over than watch Shinjuku Incident again.

Come on Jacks, give us what we want! Armour of God 3! And maybe we'll forget all about New Police Story... Maybe.
