Sort of a plot hole.

Dr. Alex Friedman wrote a paper about wormholes for space travel but she didn't pick their brains about how their spaceship worked, or give it even a cursory examination.

Here's some related edification, although I'm not vouching for any of it:

Yeah, because there was a lot of time for her to do that.

She spent her time in the Winnebago talking to Jack, instead of to the aliens.

Please learn what a plot hole is.

I didn't say it was "a plot hole", I said "sort of" a plot hole, which indicates that I'm aware of its not actually qualifying as "a plot hole".

Let's have coffee and a muffin.

How do you know she didn't question them? Because you didn't see it happen? By that criteria I guess they didn't go to the bathroom during the entire adventure because...well, we didn't see it happen. 

Yep...learn what a plot hole really is.

I'm referring to the character development in the movie. Character development is done on screen, with definite scenes and dialog. Trivial routine matters, like bathroom functions, are not relevant to the plot or character development.

And according to her actual character development, she was more interested in Jack's Ford Mustang thoughts than the wormhole-starship technology

In fact, she appears to have totally dropped the ball as an astrophysicist, in not exploiting her discovery. She wrote some kind of an expose book about the alien encounter and conflict with the Feds, but there was no form of technology gain mentioned in the movie. That's a big disconnect. You can't just assume she might have done more that's not covered and developed in the movie.
