Question (may be spoiler)

It's a minor thing, but the gray car that Tom towed, where the woman said something like "How should I know, he's a *beep* tow truck driver." Is that the same car that is shown shortly thereafter with a front end collision? I can't think of any reason why a trashed car would be in that scene, unless Tom had "taken care of" the rude woman's car as a way of getting back at her.

reply

I'm pretty sure it was her car -- at least I hope so. ;-) I didn't remember her car that well, but it seems like that would be the reason for focusing on the car later. I'll have to take a closer look when the DVD comes out.

I don't think Tom would vandalize her car, though, because although he had a great deal of anger, he also seemed very ethical.

reply

Here is my thought. Isn't it possible that he is towing it because it was in a collision? We only see the back of the car as he hooks it up, and then the camera goes back to show the whole scene. The woman is just unbelievably rude, and overreacting. She smashed the car.

reply

It was NOT her car.

I don`t know exactly what the surpose of the following scene was, but the director obviously took time to make us believe that something WOULD happen to it. I think those few scenes were just meant to serve as a demonstration of the mundane life Tom lived.

The 'rude' woman`s car was a convertible. The other car was not. Tom was rude, but he wasn`t a complete ass.

reply

They weren't the same vehicles. This was a pastiche of Tom's morning working as a tow-truck driver.
