The one ABSOLUTELY UNFORGIVABLE plot hole

Unlike many other commentators on this movie I do think the plan of Rodriguez makes perfect sense. However one thing I cannot forgive Mendes and crew: when it is seemingly easy to get a couple of choppers all the way to Macao they cannot seem to find Scotland on the map?

MI6 is purposefully leading Rodriquez and gang to Bond and M's hiding place and yet they fail to send backup? Realy? I know it makes for some dramatic scenes but come on...can we have SOME logic here?

reply

If I remember correctly it was explicitly said by Bond that he didn't want to involve MI6 or any other party with the feud between M and Silva. No more collateral damages and innocent casualties, he wanted to lure Silva to Scotland and make it a fight between Silva, M and himself. (Silva's men would be aware of any rescue choppers anyway, because they would be secretly listening in on MI6's communication lines, and so they would be prepared for any oncoming backup. It would only result in more dead soldiers and a delay of the final confrontation.)

Couldn't Bond stop by somewhere and get some weapons? I get that M and Bond do not want more casualties, but hiding in a house in the middle of nowhere isn't exactly sound war tactics. Any jail would have been saver. Moreover, MI6 could have send troops and what not directly after them and hide in the forest somewhere. For Bond to go to the middle of nowhere to fight off Silva and all his henchmen...not plausible.

reply

Bond fully expected more weapons but they had been liquidated following reports of his death.

^^this

reply

Yep. There were guns there 20 years prior. No reason to suspect there wouldn't still be guns there now.

reply

Right, because in the more 'realistic' Bond films of Craig, he can take on a whole army by himself...because that's realistic...

reply

As the other poster said, he expected weapons. Plus, Bond had the tactical advantage of knowing the lay out of the house and land.

reply

no matter how good he knew the layout, a house in an open field surrounded by trees (i believe) is hardly anyones idea of a superior field advantage.... its a deathtrap... no escape, and the possibility of being surrounded on all sides. like this entire movie, it made no sense

I hate this bond movie along with quantum of solace. They are the worstest daniel craig bond movies ever made. Boring movies with bad storylines and poor action sequences. I watched this movie only once on blu ray and then I sold the blu ray thats how much I hate this movie. I rate this movie 1/10. Truly awful.

reply

Yeah, but the weapons he was expecting were vintage hunting rifles and shotguns, in his father's old collection. Up against modern automatic rifles.

reply

What difference does that make if you have the tactical advantage? Would you not be nervous if you were taken by surprise and the guy "only" had a flint-lock rifle pointed at your chest from ten feet away and you an MP-10 slung over your shoulder?

reply

Not if I was James Bond.

he had no tactical advantage.. he was outnumbered and surrounded.. wow he knew they layout of the house. whoopdi doo.

If backup were to arrive then the whole set piece at the stone house wouldn't be a nod to "Straw Dogs." And the idea of Judi Dench playing a character who could be raped, following the reference, is most amusing; I think we all know she, the person, would caustic [sic] her would be attackers to death.

1. Who is Rodriguez?

2. You do not understand what a plot hole is.

reply

1. Who is Rodriguez?
Tiago Rodriguez, a.k.a. Raoul Silva.

So much for the ABSOLUTELY UNFORGIVABLE plot hole.

Time wounds all heels.

reply

Bond's plan is to take on Silva and his mercs single handed on the basis that they don't stand a chance against James Bond. This is the same as Batfleck taking on a platoon of mercs single handed in BvS on the basis that they don't stand a chance against Batman.

Otherwise, both their plans are stupid, unworkable and suicidal!

An opinion is not offensive just because you do not agree with it.

Logic in a Bond movie...

reply

Yeah. My biggest concern was that the entire place looked like it can easily be vaporized without needing to engage in firefight with inside tenants. Poor choice by Bond.

Also felt sad for old man recruited to (inevitably) die in fight that was not his.
