Doesn't Silva win?

Silva's whole objective was to kill M and discredit MI-6. Well, he does kill M and MI-6 does take a major hit to its reputation. Having Bond kill Silva is of little import since Silva was prepared to die for this objective anyway

reply

He mostly won. He didn't discredit MI-6 totally, though he certainly damaged their reputation, as you mentioned.

Time wounds all heels.

reply

M dies with honor, plus she outlives Silva.

Silva loses. Bond wins.

What no man Can give ya. And none Can take away.

reply

Yes, in the context of his objectives Silva wins. Bond gets a bronze for surviving the 'plot'. M... M spent the entire movie being dragged from one ridiculous subplot to the next in a geriatric muddle. She said it the best towards the end.. I f'd this up, didn't I?

reply

Not really. By the time he saw M had been wounded and was dying, he broke mentally.

Suddenly the "out for blood" vengeance turned to sadness and despair. He wanted to die. Mind you he decided a joint suicide was now the best way for him to get peace, but that was stolen from him once Bond cut him down.

reply

He won, although it wasn't the humiliating public death he wanted. Instead M died peacefully in Bond's arms, with dignity. In fact, Silva might have died thinking M survived.

reply

I certainly hope that was the case.

Laugh while you can, Monkey Boy!

reply

Silva is the one Bond villain who actually succeeded in his aims.

It's that man again!!

reply

And after all that carnage and death, he got about 5 seconds of true satisfaction before being killed by Bond!  
