So being gay is a sin, but practically boinking your girlfriend...

in front of your parents IS totally fine???

I was brought up roman catholic and althoug my parents are now into *that side* of the religion now (they go to church everyday and my father will spend hours praying the rosary) but we were "normal" when I was growing up. I was also raised in the 80's to the 90's, but with the 50's mentality.

This is what I don't understand... The very beginning of the movie we see him rolling around on the grass with his (I guess) girlfriend and they were looking very lovingly at eachother. To the point where the mother gives a nice smile and says "allright that's enough."

Also, what is with the girlfriend wanting him to boink her in the car at that time??? Pre parital sex is okay (according to this) but being homosexual is an abomination???

Religion ruins lives.

No, both are wrong, at least according to my religion it is. Not sure what religion Mary Griffith was.

That's why God gave us firearms--for shotgun weddings.

Bobby and his girlfriend were just horsing around on the grass. The family was close and apparently Bobby had no problem with showing his affections towards a girl with his parents and siblings present.

We don't know what the girlfriend meant by "I'm ready for more." Was it sex or that she wanted to move from kissing to feeling up under his/her shirt?

From the point of view of the mother, sex with the gf was not ok. But if that is what it took to get her son straight i imagine at one point she would have been willing to bend that rule.

The movie tries to show the hypocrisy of people, even the religious people in the movie. They apply the verses against gays quite strongly but sidestep ones which are inconvenient to them.
