and that is so sad. I will never understand why people fall for all of the religious brainwashing to the point that they will disown their own children if they are not moral based on religious standards. Then again, I guess that's why they call it brainwashing. Some people say homosexuals are mentally ill and that being gay is a choice that people need to be cured of. I actually think that better describes religious people and their choice to follow religious doctrine.

Son living the gay lifestyle is pretty unlikely to carry on her genes, and is useless in terms of basic "reality" which is what "belief" is actually founded on. Your notion that everyone deserves something from others no matter what they do isn't even brainwashing, it's just plain stupidity.

I don't think everyone deserves something from others, so I really don't know where you got that from. The parent/child relationship is a bit different though. I do think children deserve love and acceptance from their parents, especially for something like this that was beyond his control. Don't give me that "it's a choice" crap. If it were a choice he wouldn't have killed himself because he didn't want to be a disappointment to his mother. He would have just chosen not to be gay if his goal was to gain her acceptance. Stupidity is driving your child to kill himself because he doesn't fit into your religious ideals. You sound as crazy as this woman was. You would rather disown your child because they are gay? Just because your child couldn't carry on your genes? Are you really that selfish? Good grief. I really hope you don't have children.

She had other children that could do that.

and is useless in terms of basic "reality" which is what "belief" is actually founded on.

But what if he had been sterile instead, and couldn't "carry on her genes"? Would that be cause to cut him out of her life? And what reality is belief based on? The whole premise of belief and faith is about still believing in something even if you can't hear, see, or feel it, if it can't be proven to exist in reality.

It's true, I don't believe in unconditional love, I do know that there are some things that if my children did them I don't think I could love them anymore and would cut them out of my life. But if she hadn't been raised in such a strict religious family, would being gay be one of the things that would have caused her to cut her own son out of her life? Would she have withdrawn her love and compassion?

Jesus teaches us to love everyone but not support sin. We are to pray for the people but not celebrate sin. He also teaches that we put Him above everyone including our own lives. Earth is temporary but with Jesus, we can have eternal life. And in God's kingdom, we have love, peace and joy.

I couldn't do that. If putting Jesus above everything else in my life was causing my family, my children, such pain and anguish and they weren't doing anything to harm other people, I wouldn't be able to put Jesus above them.

Agreed. That is a dangerous mentality, that what God and Jesus say is more important than anyone or anything else. That is the same mentality that unbalanced people use to kill their children. Even worse, their kids have to grow up being rejected for anything that doesn't agree with the bible. Things like that leave scars forever.
