Would this idea have worked for Rachel?

After Erica died, what if Rachel would have testified that it was Erica herself who was the source. I mean, she was dead anyway. I understand it was about the principle, but still, principle tells you to protect a source, not a dead source! A simple lie could have saved her prison time, without revealing anything about the real source. Just sayin, don't know how right it is.
