Plot element that in hindsight doesn't make much sense (SPOILERS)

What was the airplane that crashed? What was its purpose? Was there an explanation that I missed? I may have nodded off around that point in the movie.

I guess it was her hearing things outside. Idk.

reply

I concluded it was her subconscious trying to send her a message yes

They showed in flashbacks Margarets son holding a toy plane, so i guessed it was somehow her subconscious incorporating the plane into thinking something wasn't right and needed to investigate where the plane crashed which led Alice to the exit/headquarters.

This is another example of people reading things into the plot that just aren't there. Why can't you accept that it was a real plane? They are not under some sort of dome, totally cut off from the outside world. Its purpose for the plot was for the woman to find the headquarters.

reply

Real?

Did you watch this movie??

reply

In a phone call Margeret says she saw it too. Alice experiences lots of strange things (all after the plane crash) but there is no reason to think the plane is not real.

reply

how do you mean real?? They are inside a simulation. the plane isn't real at all.
not in a dome, they are not outside, it's all a simulation. there is no real plane no real crash.

reply

It’s not a real plane. Nothing is real in the world they are in.

reply

They are not cut off from the outside world. For what end, for the "simulators, " would the plane be manifest to her. It leads her to the headquarters, which one would hardly think they would want.
