Can it be enjoyed from a sarcastic POV?
I loved the original. Will this rape and leave to rot the brilliance of the original or is it wholly unenjoyable?

shareLet me rephrase: will it destroy the memory of the original or is it at least fun to watch?
shareThat is entirely up to you. Personally, I never let sequels, prequels or any other type of tie ins spoil a film for me. It's just not worth it. A film is a work of art that stands on its own.
The Descent should not even have had a sequel to begin with. I'd say you can safely watch it, but it will make you long for the first one. It just isn't (that) good.
The only thing I liked about this was the fact that you can still see the bodies of those who died in the first film. It's very nostalgic in a grimm way. Other than that it's just like any other slasher. And the ending was poop.
shareLike the other poster said, it's basically a slasher movie in a cave. Like if someone made 'hatchet' underground and had no idea what made the first one a fan favorite. All of the character development, artistry, psychological element, etc are all gone in favor of buckets of blood spraying.
Which, don't get me wrong, is also a genre I enjoy. But it doesn't need to be a descent movie at that point, because it really has very little resemblance to the first. And the ending is poop, I agree.
