...Why did she chop his hand off instead of........

When that dumb sherrif is dangling by the hand cuffs to sarah and the black cop lady uses the climbing pick axe to chop his hand off using MANY, ridiculiously over exagerated hits, why didnt she just aim for the chain for the cuffs? I mean um HELLO with a 200 pd plus man dangling off a little handcuff chain, it would taken 1 maybe 2 good racks to weaken 1 or 2 links and it woulda snapped.. instead the women tend to screw each over whenever they can it seems in these movies.....

Ultimately this movie taught me never to be in a life and death situation with a woman, especially one who's willing to commit monsterous acts just to 'survive'.....personally I think every woman in this movie (character wise) should be euthanized.

I blame it entirely on the writers. Juno kept saying 'cut it off' and the cop kept looking confused and I think she asked 'cut what'.

I was thinking oh, they're building it to make you think arm but then she'll say chain. She never did. It was confusing.

reply

What was said was "Cut him."

reply

The cop was a douche who handcuffed a woman to him knowing full well that beasties were out to kill them. I'm not saying that makes it right but I can see where she was coming from.

reply

That scene was pretty cringy since it took a half dozen tries to cut the hand off. I actually felt bad for that dude.

Little chance of actually hitting the chain in the dark like under duress like that though.

reply

I don't feel bad for him. Guy was a moron.

Lets assume for a second that that pick axe would of been able to sever the link ( In reality the links are made up steel and you would of been all day trying to cut theme which would of ended in an epic fail.) How easy do you think it would of been for her to accurately swing with all her might and actually those links... with the creatures quickly coming at them? It made a lot more sense to attack something that was a larger target, and actually could be damaged by the axe.

reply

Agreed. In these circumstances it made more sense to go after his arm.

Handcuff chains are made of some super strong steel (forget the exact name), but it isn't like your regular steel or metal at all, and would take extreme force to break. After all, they're built exactly for that reason, to keep one restrained. They wouldn't be very effective if you could break them apart but hitting them with a hammer.

So, she did have the right idea in hacking the guy's arm off; however, she could have been a wee bit more efficient about it...

But you can't use that as an excuse, because in many other movies, handcuff chains have been broken very easily by tools.

Yeah, but this movie isn't "many other movies". Movies exist outside of each other's universes unless explicitly stated (i.e. Descent 1 and Descent 2 are in the same universe) and you can't compare them if they're not.

That's like saying they all could have easily escaped by blasting through the cave until they reached the surface, because Superman did something similar.

reply

Every chain can be broken.

"The chain in those handcuffs is high-tensile steel. It'd take you ten minutes to hack through it with this. Now, if you're lucky, you could hack through your ankle in five minutes. Go." - Max Rockatansky

Yes; almost as epic a fail as that paragraph.

if the op had your mindset this thread wouldn't exist

"I used to love her but I had to kill her"

Maybe she aimed for the handcuff chain but accidently hit his hand and just thought "hmm, this could work, lol"

reply

Or she could have reached into her pocket for a Handcuff key. heh

reply

Wow. Way to be misogynistic. Because men would never do things like that. I think you would do quite a few monstrous things in order to survive if you were really faced with your own death.

reply

Ignoring the fact that the idiot sheriff caused the whole thing in the first place by pulling the trigger?

reply

Stupid retard sheriff!!!
Worst written character in this bad sequel

*beep* him.
I hate when characters are so badly written and acted you cheer for then to die!!

reply

This movie has taught me to be in more life or death situations with people like you who have no will to survive because I know if push comes to shove, you aren't going to give me too much of a fight. LOL Wait....dangit....maybe that's because i'm a WOMAN!! HAHAHAHAHA

Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them. I don't give a *beep* how crazy they are!
