Mennonites in the Movies!
As posted on my fb page after seeing it on TV today: "REIMER and BRANDT are the main characters' last names. Leading actress is an UNGER. What would P B Reimer say, a mennonite founder of Steinbach and writer of cherished primary history? Filmed around Vancouver and written by Mr. Cohen, I'd love to look under the hood n see where my relatives' names came from. At last a Reimer got to correct in a big way, generations of mispronunciation of their last name too, as a detective who looks eerily like me and mine asks a coworker, "Maybe it's NOT pronounced 'Ray-mer' but 'RHYME-er'?" The plot is convoluted enough to have grown out of ongoing neighbourhood story-making of the Panthers on Mill Street. So nice to stumble upon this little mystery within a big, colourful movie mystery!"
