Is this a reboot acting as a sequel, or a legit sequel?

Because the directors clearly re-created Johnny Blaze signing his contract, to match the darker, grittier tone of the overall product but, why?

They really should have used the same scene from the first film, just to keep continuity. Seriously, it's fùcking stupid when sequels do this. So I'm starting to think that this was intended to be a reboot, (since they weren't in any hurry to make a sequel right after the first film came out) giving that they completely re-shot that scene. I prefer the one from the first film. It shows that Johnny was tricked into signing the contract, and not forced. It's like the whole thingy of the movie.

They could have used the same scene, just re-shoot the shots of Peter Fonda. I do think they were going for a loose reboot sort of sequel, like G.I. JOE: RETALIATION.

I think it is considered a soft-reboot like X-Men: First Class rather than a semi-sequel like Superman Returns.
