Bruce Greenwood's performance

Bruce was really good in this film. He is totally believable. The accent, and the walk lead you to believe he was a dancer. I hope he gets a supporting actor oscar nom.

Bruce really showed his acting kills with this role.

Agreed, he was fantastic!

Loved his performance in this. On a side note, does anyone think there may be more reason to Ben's objection than that will severe his relationship with China. I think Ben may be attracted to Li himself.

Bruce's performance was great in the film. I doubt that there was anything further to Ben's objection other that what he stated, considering the U.S. relationship with China at the time. That he had made some progress with China was itself amazing.

Why was he talking weird? he sounds better with his natural voice, such as in Star Trek ...

reply

Because he was portraying an Englishman, hence the English accent. I thought he did a very good job of it, actually.

Many of the accents were a bit weird - Kyle McLachlan's fake Texan accent was fairly bad, as was Aden Young's, and the actress who played Lori. But that's what happens when you ask Canadian and Australian (and in Kyle's case, non-Texan American) actors to portray Texans - and actually, many of the 'actors' weren't actors at all, but ballet dancers, so all things considered, they did a pretty good job. Certainly their performances didn't detract from the film.

Greenwood especially strong considering he's West Coast Canadian, who spent much of his youth living in the East Coast of U.S , portraying a somewhat effeminate, gay British choreographer, who's working in the southwest U.S.--and all of this in an Australian film.

Agree. He played a gay man with unique subtly.

He definitely wanted a piece of Li. I'm actually surprised he didn't go for it.

reply

It was good but realistically all he did was act effeminate and imitate the voice of James Mason.

I totally bought his performance as a gay man. To the point that I looked to see if he was married in real life. Very good acting!
