Is this some kind of Step Up?

It's based on the autobiography of Li Cunxin, a young ballet student who came from China to Houston to study at the academy of the Houston Ballet, and ended up marrying an American girl and defecting rather than return to China. It was quite a big news story at the time (well--for a ballet news story, anyway). He became a well-known principal dancer, eventually wrote his autobiography, and now lives in Australia (or so I've read).

So, yeah, it's a dance flick.
