if you liked Ink you'd also like... (reccommendations please)
I really enjoyed ink from the start of the movie. The style, the way it was shot, the costume design, the sounds, the storyline, etc. What films would would you recommend for me?

donnie darko was great.
Thanks for this list! Ink was just recommended to me by Netflix instant watch. I've seen a third of what you listed here and liked all of them, will imdb the rest.
shareGood list. I'm having trouble finding Lo and Vera. What year was Lo released?
I would like to add to your list
Pandorum (2009)
Moon (2009)

How about "Blade Runner" - ONLY the Director's Cut Version? That was the movie that made me fall in love with the genre.
shareHave to agree with another poster here with Stay.
Tideland is also an AMAZING choice.
I'd add The Jacket.
Voilee, I've seen all the movies your list except for Lo, Vera and The Tracey Fragmets. After this post I'll check out each with the hope of adding them to my watch list for future viewing. The others are all very good and I highly recommend watching them.
But (isn't there always a 'but'? :). Ink was very different and most enjoyable for me because of the unknown and still relatively unknown cast. And its tremendous creativity. I loved the "something's gotta stop the flow" scene. Also, it has a great musical score.
I never formally studied acting or film, but I think Tom Hanks, Sam Rockwell, Meryl Streep, Christian Bale, and Jennifer Lawrence (the last will one day be perceived as such, imho) are great actors.
But (another 'but', are you kidding me? :). In my mind, because of the great job they did in whatever role, these actors have been "stamped" for me. Tom ("Life is like a box of chocolates") Hanks, Christian ("I am Batman") Bale, for example. MockingJay: Part 2 was good, but the Jennifer Lawrence media saturation really detracted from my enjoyment (I saw her in Winter's Bone before the first THG movie, but that was my only exposure). Hugh (Wolverine) Jackman, anyone? Drat.
There. That's a big part of why I think Ink is (still) a really special movie.
brokeback mountain
shareJust watched the movie today off Netflix, good stuff. A lot of the camera and fantasy stuff reminded me of Mirror Mask (maybe it was due to the blur effect). You could probably add Pan's Labyrinth to that list. But those other movies you mentioned I see resemblance to. The ones I don't know I will check out some time.
shareI am usually the first to stand up and cheer and praise art films - but this one was too wacky, even for me.
BUT - if you like films along these lines, then watch "The Fall". Similar in concept (reality and dream world intertwined), but the story is more "believeable" and the acting is superb!
Paperhouse is excellent
shareThe Fall was truly magnificent. The filming is breathtaking.

A couple that haven't been said:
Stay - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371257/
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1054606/
And for series - Carnivale - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319969/
One film that I kept thinking of during this was Brick.
It's kind of like this murder/mystery set in a high school, with only the students playing the roles. It's artsy and a bit surreal...not really 'like' this movie in concept, but I thought about it while watching this for some reason.

not going to look through all the messages to see if this one is listed but in the tradition of WTH is going on in this movie, try Lost Highway.
shareI'm surprised no one mentioned the king of them all: Eraserhead.
The thorn defends the rose, yet it is peaceful and does not seek conflict.
I am genuinely shocked that anyone who liked Ink hasn't seen Running Scared. Admittedly, it was a very under-the-radar release. It's less focused on human development than Ink, however it has an extremely artistic "fairy tales in the real world" format which is fantastic. It shares that same archetypal quality that Ink has though.
The other movie which is good for the more artistic imagery-favouring and philosophical among you is The Fountain. Very much focused on reincarnation and meaning of life stuff, and absolutely gorgeous to watch. Has a mental/emotional workout quality to it, not unlike Ink.
Oh, and I totally forgot Another Earth. Similar "What if?" intersection of two possible worlds and winner of quite a few film festivals
shareThe opening (using characters we never see again to establish the function of the supernatural beings) is straight out of Wings of Desire.
Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.share
