Why this is a great movie...
I really love the movie Ink, but I can understand some folks not liking it. It feels a little disjointed, some of the character personalities are awkward, the low budget of this film punches you in the face with details like the electrical tape over the eyes, etc.
What makes this movie great is the subject matter. It's about the inner struggle to do what is best for you and the people around you despite outside pressure to do otherwise (these outside pressures are not necessarily evil, just disconnected or not understanding of what's at stake). It's about how one can reach a tipping point, or edge of a cliff, where their decision in that moment will critically affect their future and the future of those around them for better or worse. A decision there is no coming back from. It's about being at the edge, and wanting to come back from it. It's about seeing others pushed to the edge, and that sometimes you have to reach out a hand to help them come back. And you have to care about all of that.
I would guess the people who love this movie most have been in or around such situations themselves. They have a personal connection and have felt this struggle on a very real level.
The music helps too. It was actually pretty good music for a low budget indie film.
