What a Surreal Interview with Walter

I've met these men a million times, especially Walter. I was blown away by this interview. Firstly, this is the first appearance I've seen of Walter without his toupee. Fandom has know for YEARS that his hair wasn't his, but to finally see him without it, I was so glad for him, so proud that he was able to do it. Secondly, no discussion of his son. If there's a raw nerve out there for Walter, that's gotta be one of them. I'm not disappointed that he didn't discuss it, rather the sadness I have for the pain of his loss only deepened. Finally, the frank talk aobut their interpersonal dynamic throughout Star Trek was fascinating. Fans like me who are deep into their fandom know all this stuff already, nothing new here. AT ALL. But it's never been in the mainstream or discussed so openly. It's been discussed in their books that only the fans are reading, conventions that only the fans are going to, and message boards that only the fans are posting on. So, to see it out there like this was really cool.

Wasn't sure how I felt about the backdoor interview of George via the discussion of Walter being in his wedding. Clearly, Walter was trying not to say that George used his wedding to raise awareness and possibly also stick it to Bill. I love George. I will always love George. I hope that a Raw Nerve interview can happen with him one day.

Just watched it, I like the fact that Shatner could "almost" admit he was a dick at times but he also tried to defend himself. I was really impressed by the kindness and randomness of the interview.

I believe Shatner, that he was so consumed with his own pressures at the time he didn't pay attention to the needs of others around him. That's completely different than someone who is just a d**k, who never cares about anyone but themselves and even looks to hurt people for petty reasons. Acting is no different than working in any other profession where people can be under pressure and ignore others when they are in a leadership role. And not unlike any other work situation, there are people who never speak up for themselves and then resent everyone else involved in the group or team. Or they take actions that aren't directed towards them as being personal. But it makes it easier for the media to get attention for themselves if the reporting is to paint people at odds with each other. It still shows Shatner is a bigger man than most to show regret for pain someone had whether he intentionally caused it or not.

I agree - this is by far one of the best of Shatner's Raw Nerve interviews, and I'm glad he was open to letting Walter speak. If anything, I would have liked the interview to go on a bit longer with Walter also speaking about the recent death of his son (although I certainly respect his decision if he was not in favor of approaching that subject).

I have enjoyed Raw Nerve, but never so much as when Walter was on.
I agree with things posted here. During ST, they were all younger.
In youth, you tend to not see the entire picture. And Walter was great
making the point he (and they) could all have said something at the time.

I was only sorry about the last part. Shatner wanted to make an ammend.
Sounded like (since he has the power, consider it done), Walter was going to have a guest shot on &%#@&% My Father Says. Then shortly afterward that was cancelled.

Too bad, it had potential. Shatner was great in it. Wish it had a longer time to find its footing. Had a great season end concept for it. Done Live, with all the remaining Guest stars being form Star TRek. Lines from the show, but under no circumstances could the words "STAR" or "TREK" be used. Too bad.

It's ironic your post was on the day the show was cancelled, or at least aired the last episode.

Walter said something under his breath about the wedding just before describing how the rings were presented, but I can'gt make it out. Does anyone know what he said?

Also, is Walter saying that George asking him to be his best man could have been a stunt to bring more attention to the wedding and George's cause?

Thanks.
