Trailer is so creepy.

The kids look strange. Everyone in this town is very tan except for Gavin. Plus, these "old man helping little kids with love and bullies" types of films always have a patina of molestation.

Herein lies the window to the problems we face today. It used to be that an older gentleman would often mentor younger men & boys. That is how trade, knowledge & tradition has been handed down for 6,000 years.

It is only in recent history that even the thought of there being anything untoward in the relationship of this man with the children would even be entertained, much less advanced.

It is a sad state of affairs that such a thought even raises up in someone's mind, let alone that they give voice to it.

Whereas those things have definitely happened, it is just as wrong to paint everyone with the same brush. There are far more occurrences, as portrayed in this movie, than what is seen in the sordid headlines that you refer to.

To answer that, look no further than the priests and many others that have taken advantage of young boys and girls.

A godly man (Jonathan Sperry) and a Priest? Priests don't get married and it's by error that the Catholic Religion doesn't allow their Priests to marry, to avoid those sins that some priests commit.

God says: "But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion." 1 Corinthians 7:9

I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic schools but my parents hardly ever went to church and then they just stopped going to Church.

When I left home, I visited many Churches, searching for that right Church. I finally converted from Catholic to Baptist Churches because I got so much more knowledge and I grew spiritually, knowing God's ways.

My brother-in-law was telling us that the Catholic Churches (instructed by their superiors) are telling all Catholics, not to read their Bibles. I am glad that I made the conversion because Pastor Stanley, says the only ONE BOOK you'll ever need is...and he raises up the Bible.

"Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don't understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God." 2 Corinthians 4:4 That is why bad things happen.

Remember we all should be living according to the New Testament (Matthew thru Jude). It's our map, without it, we are lost, so read it and welcome God into your life and pray for those children, who are being hurt by those ungodly men.

6,000 years? What? Are you a YEC or what?

Not that I disagree with you on mentorship and molestation hysteria but you make yourself look like an uneducated rube if you think the Earth and humans are only 6,000 years old.

I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to voice an opinion different from yours. How dare I introduce another point of view.

Obamunism! The death of the Republic!

reply

I'm not sure if you're touting a 6,000 year old earth, but if so, that's not an opinion to voice. It's a fact. It's an error in fact, but it's not an opinion.

reply

It is a fact that I am of the opinion that God meant what He said in the Bible. And I DO have the right to air that opinion, whether you agree with it, or not.

Obamunism! The death of the Republic!

reply

A fact is demonstrable. An opinion is a personal view. I would look like a fool if I said "it is my opinion that the sky is blue". The problem with your "opinion" isn't that you're wrong, is that the age of the earth is demonstrable, therefore not open for opinion. Do you see now? I'm not even talking about how old the earth is.

reply

And yet, you make a statement that something is demonstrable, even though it has yet to be demonstrated.

Now you're starting to get it.

Puh-Leeeeeze. 6000 years ago there was precious little written down, and stone was the medium. Tradition was handed down by word of mouth, and feats of memory were fabulous. (Homer's Illiad and Odessey were memorized, not written until 400 years later).
Earth is supposed to be 5 Billion years old, but it could be 7 or 8 or even older. Your guess is as good as mine.

reply

Fossil.

Fossil.

Oh, and fossil.

reply

How can you demonstrate what happened a few million years ago? Is it testable? Was it observed? Is it repeatable, in the way you can test the boiling point of water? When it comes to the 'forensic science' which is historical science, can only hypothesize from our pre-existing worldview. Bobbobbob123, your application and definition of 'demonstrable fact' is more than a little grey...

Anyway people, let's keep this message board about the FILM...

reply

Of course it is repeatable, that's why we know it's a fact! Is it testable? Yes! That's why it's science. When you count out the begats of the bible to derive a 6000 year old earth, you're in pseudoscience land, not hard science. You're relying on something that is, in fact, NOT testable; not testable means not science. Why is this hard to understand? When you say "the earth is x years old" that's a fact; it's not opinion, because it's *testable*. You wanna say "Jesus loves me"? Cool, that's religion. You wanna say "Jesus built my hotrod"? Well, that's testable, therefore NOT religion.

>>How can you demonstrate what happened a few million years ago?

Are you serious with this question? So what, the dinosaurs didn't exist because I can't see a video of them big pimpin' 100,000,000 years ago?

reply

Doesn't anybody in this sub-discussion have a problem with being about 6 thousand light years off on a tangent?

reply

Once again, anyone who dissents from the almighty Darwinian gospel is excluded by ridicule, with nary a fact in sight. "We're still looking for those transitional fossils, Charles...".

The Bible is still the most reliable history book known to man; 66 books written over 1600 years, by 40 authors, but with one congruent theme. On the Origin of Species has only made it 150 years and is already being picked apart...

Anyway people, let's keep this message board about the FILM.

reply

Of course it's being picked apart. *That's the point!* Science, religion. Religion, science. They're 2 separate things. They do not intersect. They are mutually exclusive. Science is about presenting hypotheses for revision. Religion is about accepting what has been dictated. And that's the problem with everyone like you. You think you can use the tools of science in your religious arena. Uh, no, you can't. As soon as you do, you get consternated by logic.

reply

Well, you can use science in a religious arena. There is a reason it is not. If religion was scrutinised by science by the members of that religion, in most cases the religion would fall apart, I say in most cases because meditation has been proven to dramatically reduce stress levels and give the body superhuman qualities. To say that the bible is 100% true is to be ignorant of common sense. Parts of the bible are symbolic and if you read deeper into them and try to apply logic and work out the real meaning, you will get so much more out of it.

HELP ME!!! I need to know if I am alone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFzThGyt5vM

So where are you coming from? You seem to be condemning a person for thinking that humans are 6000 years old, so you must take the other extreme and think they are millions of years old. That is the dilemma between creationists and evolutionists is it not?

I have a problem with the concept that modern man is even 30,000 years old. The reason for this is that we should be more advanced technology wise if we were this old or older. Look how far we have come in the last 150 years? If we were to have come from 30,000 years ago we should be a lot farther ahead than we are.

I believe the earth is billions of years old, hominids millions of years old, dinosaurs whatever, there is a fossil record of these.

But modern man has not been around for that long. Our bodies are made of stuff that may have evolved over millions of years, but the content, whatever you deem that to be, which operates within our bodies is not all that evolved.

Existence is an eternal thing. It is as timeless as it is unknowing. Our bodies are limited in time, so we tend to gauge things to the end. If there is anything eternal about ourselves then time really is meaningless.

If you think about existence, there is no reason for it to have happened at all.
To say that there was a big bang and the whole universe started from there is just made up. Unless your making the assumption that something before the universe blew up. But then that really contradicts what universe is. Science doesn't have an answer, religion will never provide the tactile proof. Even if God appears to us we will still have to believe it is Him.

We are all just stupid, blind, and argumentative. Educated? Nah!

Are you really sure about the direction of evolution? Are you really sure that the money you are going to inherit will destroy your family unless you give it all to Jesus' representatives on TV?

Do you fully understand how calling out someone else as appearing uneducated also likens you to the same fate of appearing to be uneducated, perhaps even more so!

reply

Just because people didn't talk about it doesn't mean it didn't happen. If you think for one moment that molestation is a new phenomenon, you are SORELY mistaken. And if you think talking about it is a bad thing, you are even more mistaken.

reply

I know. It's like...someone perfectly coiffed everyone's hair. It's like a Lifetime Channel movie, where everything's clean, warm, and fuzzy. It makes the town (Brockport, NY, down the street from where I live) seem unreal.

But then, I think the look of the movie is inconcequencial compared to the extremely weak, stupid plot

The Gavin character perhaps isn't tan because he doesn't get outside much? He isn't constantly mowing lawns, riding a bike, and fishing. Or maybe he is sick. After all, he is going to die in a few weeks, isn't he?
