This show is fake!

I realize many elements of the show are real, Baio's house, girlfriends, dogs etc... But something very phony creeps in when Baio is with his crew. I get the feeling the show is ripping off "Entourage". Like "Entourage" there are 4 guys and 2 are actors. None of these guys have jobs, families or other friends? The 2 friends who aren't actors say some things that feel pretty scripted or intentional. Maybe there is no script, but a direction the producers want the show to go.
Scott's Napoleon buddy (johhny V), you can tell he's acting and bad at it. As bad actors usually are at trying to act normal.
The meeting with Baio's agent who suggests this reality show may be a bad idea. That whole scene was staged. The only element that feels real is Scott Baio's responses. Because he's an alright actor and even better at playing himself. The Agent, not so convincing.
I'm sure someone was pitching reality shows to Scott and this premise seemed the freshest. Besides, what is Scott Baio well known for in LA? Having slept with everyone....So lets set a show around that!
Maybe those guys are his real friends, But my gut tells me Chachi's entourage is very pretend.

Come on, there is a little bit of staging in all "reality" shows.
I really do hate his small wingman friend, too. The ending of every episode should be him falling off a cliff.

I agree! I realize all reality shows are staged in some way, but lately they are sooo scripted it's not even entertaining. This may sound mean too, but some of the women that Scott looks up that he used to date. OUCH! Some of them look like they have either had a really rough life, done too many drugs, gotten too much sun or all of the above. They just look haggard. Erin Moran looks like she could be his mother now.

I wa just thinking the same thing! EVERYHTING about the dialogue seems fake. It all sounds completley scripted! Even the 'psychiatrist' seems like she wandered out of a romantic comedy, and the one ex girlfriend just had all of these clever quips ready to go. And did anyone notice how they basically mounted a camera onto the front of that golf cart when they caught that exchange with the over-the-top sidekick? Almost like they knew that conversation was going to happen...

I've only seen a few episodes of "Entourage" but that was the first thing I thought of while watching SBI45, especially the scene where the four of them were walking into the racetrack side by side. In SAT terms, Scott is to Johnny V. as Vince is to Turtle.

The scene in the agent's office was ridiculous. You don't even have to be a real follower of Hollywood to know that Clint Howard is Ron Howard's brother and we're supposed to believe that Johnny V., who has known Scott since he was 15, didn't know that? When his friend of 30 years co-starred in a hugely popular TV show with the brother? You have GOT to be kidding me.

Having said that, I have to admit I probably will keep watching the show. I'm sure I'll cringe every time Johnny V. shows up, but it's got to be better than Rock of Love.

You mean what's silverware doing in the pancake drawer.

I can't stand that Johnny V. guy. He says he used to be an actor. In what? When? He's short, ugly, and horrible. Ugh!

"why would someone as private as Scott Baio open up his personal life completely to millions of people he claims to not even like?"

i heard baio was shopping a book about his bedroom exploits. can't be all that private!

i'm still trying to figure out how he managed to nail pamela anderson AND denise richards!

reply

Well if Johnny V wants people to think he's an a-hole, he's doing a damn good job!

You know when i knew it was fake? When Baio (must be Italian for "prick") was slobbering all over Clint Howard: "I wish I knew your brother!" How could he have been on "Happy Days" and NOT know Ron Howard?!

Funny, when Johnny V started slobbering all over Clint, Baio got him the hell out of there!

Everything Johnny V says sounds scripted. Everything!!! Everytime he talks it seems like hes acting. Hes one of the reason why I hate this show. Either that or hes just acting like that either to get famous or get his own show or something.

This show does remind me of Entourage. It's wierd that Scott's agent name is Harry Gold.

I'm glad this thread was started. In week one I felt the same way. That this was too scripted. Like Jonny V is TOO over the top. But last night was a total farce. Don't get me wrong. I agree the concept is real. The dude has had a ton of Hollywood A, B and C listers. And he needs to mature, but when he just happens to walk in on Julie Mcculloughs act last night and then the bachelorette party in Palm Springs. I mean the whole deal with the girls at the house and then walking out on Jonny V was just totally scripted. Not that it wouldn't happen it was just too perfect.

Plus I love the fact that Hervey and Eric Bishoff are the executive producers. His best friend is basically scripting the show. We had to hear that Hervey is happily married for 10 years. But we didn't hear of his failed marriage to the MOM on Wonder Years and the fact that his current wife is Totally HOT former porn star.

It rings true but it clearly scripted.

I am not sure that we should jump to the conclusion that the program is not an accurate reflection of reality. While the show comes across as fake and superficial, wouldn't that pretty much describe Scott Baio perfectly?
All jokes aside, I think the reason that "Baio is 45..." has not captured the imagination of a lot of people is that the show, staged or not, does bring out Baio's personality. While Baio appears to have avoided a lot of the other pratfalls that have done in other former "child stars" (see drug addiction, getting in bar fights, throwing away money, and general sociopathic behavior), the fact that he is relatively stable (though somewhat immature in regards to relationships) and leads a very comfortable lifestyle does not make for overly entertaining television.
Yes, Baio was the charter member of the Man Show "Hall of Fame" for his legendary status as a ladies man, but it is not like he was in a bunch of broken marriages with illegitimate children running around from his skirt chasing. Even with his faults, he was at least smart enough to know that he had limitations (thus no marriage for him). His cold feet probably saved him and his conquest from much worse fates.
Once again on why the show is not that entertaining, his flings with pretty much every Baywatch actress and Playboy model of the last twenty years is an interesting premise. But, face it, the fact that the guy is wealthy, never seems to get in serious trouble, and has a pretty smooth life actually takes away most of the freak value in the show. Somebody referenced Danny Bonaduce earlier; he is entertaining since he is so volatile, bitter, a recovering addict, and in a turbulent marriage. Isn't that more interesting to watch than Scott Baio and his "life coach"? How about Dustin Diamond and his broke, anti-social, porn film making self behaving like a total ass on Celebrity Fit Club a few weeks back? More fun to watch than Baio and his contrition? How about Vanilla Ice appearing on every VH1 show he can find to pay bills and then spaz out when he gets eliminated? More fun to watch than a bunch of Entourage wanna-bes on the golf course? How about watching Leif Garrett on "Behind the Music"? More interesting that the "Vow of Celibacy" for Baio? Heck, watching "Chance" on "I Luv New York" was a bigger hoot than watching Baio and his opulence. I can go on and on.
Baio deserves credit for the success that he has attained in life compared to his contemporaries (I am in no way criticizing this). But, we want a train wreck, damnit!

- I disagree.. I haven't seen Bonaduce or Dustin Diamond's or any other of the shows you mentioned because, after a while, the "train wreck" just gets old.. I do, however, ebjoy Baio's show because it gives all of us who may not have had a chance to experience stardom or date Playmates (i.e. 99.5% of the population) a chance to live vicariously through his exploits and imagine what that kind of life would be like- flaws and all.....

Don't get me wrong, I do find the show interesting in regards to how he will deal with his "vow of celibacy". I was referring more to the people who were complaining about the show being fake and not entertaining, which I mildly disagree with (some of it does seem a bit exaggerated).
I am saying that there is not as much drama in this show as opposed to most of the ensemble reality shows on VH1. It is a bit more like Hulk Hogan's show in that Baio has set himself up for life and is dealing with personal issues without the desperation that some of the other "past their peak" celebrities have to. Baio is not needing to make a buck (see Hammer and Vanilla Ice), fight drug problems (see Tom Sizemore and Leif Garrett), or trying to chase a passed ship (see Andrew Dice Clay). Actually one of the more stable celebrities since the "Behind the ...." era has begun on VH1.
Yes, he has had an interesting life, but he is chasing the normalcy that the rest of us have and it is not like you are watching him circa 1987 when he was doing all of the stuff that is alluded to on the show. If it wasn't for Johnny V., the show would be pretty tame.

In addition, his girlfriend is pregnant and due in December!

It was on this imdb

Um..if you're looking for "real" you should go outside and play a game or something.

Anyhoo, this show is pretty interesting and just take television with a grain of salt. I treat it like a regular show, as if it was scripted and it's pretty awesome. although I thought Baio was a bastard in the beginning, he's pretty likeable and it's a breath of fresh air from all the yelling and screaming of other "celebreality" stars out there (ei. Bonadulce, Flavor Flav)

Why put so much thought into the show? It's fake. So what. It's pretty enjoyable anyway, we have a likeable character here.

What bothers me about this show is that Scott Baio isn't even really single. You know someone just pitched this show with that premise in mind and-- wait, he's not single? Who cares! Hell, the climactic ending will probably end up being Scott proposing to his girlfriend, showing that he really "learned something" from the whole experience. Plus all his friends DO seem very scripted, or at least pre-conditioned to act a certain way for the cameras. I really doubt Scott Baio hangs out with old co-stars, either. Producers probably called them to boost ratings because everyone is interested in the where-are-they-now details.

But I still watch =)
