Finally airing in the US on SyFy channel in July

A while back Craig Engler (@SyFy on Twitter) announced that sometime in July, SyFy would be running at least the first movie, Jack Hunter & the Lost Treasure of Ugarit. No mention if it will be all three though. :D

If you're looking for Indiana Jones, go watch that. This is similar but not exactly like it. It's fun and the scenery is beautiful (including most of the cast).

It WAS a fun movie! Since it was on SyFy, I kept expecting a horrible CGI monster and was pleased that it never showed up! What little CGI there was (the scorpions on the walls, some of the collapsing temple) was very well done. I also liked that the fight scenes seemed like what real people would do, not the crap Hollywood makes the norm where everyone is some sort of super kung fu hero. The writing and plot were decent. The actors were all pretty good, with the leads being likeable. And the fact that it was actually filmed in Syria (and Turkey, I think) made it much better! The scenery was amazing!!!

Overall, a very enjoyable movie. I can't wait to see the second one!

That's because SyFy wasn't involved in the actual making of this movie. It was made in late 2007 or early 2008 and SyFy only has the rights to air the first movie so far.

It was filmed in Turkey. I asked Joanne Kelly about it during the WH13 panel at San Diego Comic Con last weekend. She said it was all filmed in Turkey.

It's hard to find actual info on this one- yeah, it wasn't a SyFy "Original", but still, they don't tend to show things this good. I've seen that it was made anywhere from 2007-2009, and in both Syria and Turkey.

I'm glad you can help provide a few facts about it, because I liked it quite a bit! It's really cool you got to see her at Comic-Con! So I will go with what she said (she should know, shouldn't she?)!

If it was all Turkey, that is cool. All the locations were actual locations- even the markets and interiors were not in the US, as far as I could tell. I just hate when California becomes the Middle-East, or Vancouver becomes Iowa, or even worse, that kind of thing.

...And SyFy has aired a _few_ other really good movies that nobody else does- Abonimable, Spring Break Shark Attack, maybe something I can't think of... I'll watch those a lot, and Abominable provides a lot of in-jokes with my wife. But I'll put this one as the best.

I'd love to see loads more movies like it! Not clones of this, but made in the same way- spend a little more on talent (overall!) and writing instead of just making bigger and dumber-looking CGI.

Cheers, SunKrux! Thanks for the info!

Here's a link to an interview with the director that answers some of your questions.

Spring Break Shark Attack originally aired on CBS in '05 or '06. It was one of the network's highest rated movies of the year. It was filmed in South Africa.

Sci-Fi tends to roll it out at spring break time, which is appropriate.
