Can someone explain the CAT train to me?

I don't get the purpose of dragging all that equipment over the lake to pick up a generator that looked to weigh a couple of hundred pounds at the most.

Thanks

The cat dragging the tires does so to "repair" the road. Once the Cat train goes through a trail the sleds leave huge divots that cause all kinds of havoc with snowmobiles, etc.

Two required...three probably not necessary.

i think he meant why drag the 4 trailers on the first cat.

I asked the same thing then thought maybe the white building was an emergency shelter just in case they got stuck.

You need one cart for tools in case you break down, one to put the generator on and one for the shelter i guess. I'm wondering why they did not just bring 1 snowmobile with a trailer attached. i can't imagine the cost of pickup for the motor for a friend would cover the cost of all that diesel fuel wasted

Well if you take a snowmobile then you wouldn't need a cat train....

Though on longer outings the cat train is your shelter as well. So caboose+tools+carrying capacity.

Yes that's it exactly. It seemed an excessive amount of equipment and a huge amount of weight to put on the ice for a relatively small load.

It was like sending an 18 wheeler to your gramma's house to pick up the pacifier left behind by the baby.
