The Ghetto Factor

The first season was the least ghetto and had the least ghetto participants—I measure this by their accents (sorry, but it’s true!) The first season had Roqui, Garnette, Vanessa Bell Calloway’s daughter, and Willi; I think there was a boy who was not ghetto as well (he wanted to be a doctor). The second season had Vanessa Bell Calloway’s daughter and she was all by her lonesome. Now in the third season, we have Etienne. I think the Jack and Jill set/non-ghetto kids have been warned about this show and not to appear on it. Most of the kids on it seem a bit thugged out, they don’t speak the king’s English and they have tons of drama that the “black elite” flee from. You're not going to see doctors and lawyers kids on this show acting out.

Moriah and Justin aren't ghetto. I wouldn't raelly say Aysia is either.

reply

While I'm not a fan of hers, Gerren is not ghetto. Frankly, I don't think Tyler is, either. Stacey's borderline, and Seiko uses too much lingo.

reply

I was going to mention Gerren but she has her moments. Stacy is way better than she used to be. I actually would say now that Lorrena is gone the people don't seem as ghetto. They are just full of drama.

reply

Uh, you sound kind of retarded. You think just because they're the children of doctors and lawyers they're not going to have drama in their lives? Every teenager has drama in their live and the ones with money tend to have the most.

reply

Basically, you want them to talk like white people and say "gnarly" instead of "dope". Like, just let them have their own identity, let them speak how they want. I'm sure it's hard enough for them being around that many white people in their daily lives. It's uppity opinions like that cripple black kids and have them confused.

reply

Explain to me, the "ghetto" factor. Though I'm not a fan of how some of the kids on the show act, let's kill all of this "ghetto" mess, thats a stereotype and people(mostly white) always assume that African Americans are ghetto. If I'm not mistaken, Baldwin Hills is not the ghetto.

Let me break it down so it can forever, and consistently be broke.

I'm black and Lorrena was ghetto...come on now. Staci used to be ghetto too during the first season.

Exactly what do you mean when call you someone "ghetto"? Because the last time I checked the term ghetto is used to describe a section of a particular city. An example would be where jewish people were forced to live many years ago. So again I ask how exactly is it that someone can be classified as "ghetto"?

reply

I know what the exact term of ghetto is. I guess no class would be a better description then since you want to get technical. However Lor'rena was acting and Staci during first season is what I mean by ghetto. Come up with another description and I will gladly use it.

Ok I apologize lovinthis if I came off rude. I just hate when people use the term "ghetto" to describe an individual. I agree that Lor'rena came across as a person with no class. However I have to disagree about Staci though. She seemed to be the most down to earth person out of the bunch imo. I can say that she was a bit wild though especially in the first season. What are your thoughts on how Tyler handles the situation with Gerren?

reply

I really don't like Tyler because she started this whole mess and is now trying to be the 'bigger' person. I don't like how Tyler acted at the beach at the house she seemed more subdued compared to Gerren but that's cause Gerren always gets so loud.

Wow. You just exposed yourself as a racial parasite.

reply

Aww lovinthis you're my buddy from the Brothers to Brutha board (go back there i posted a question lol) but I have to somewhat disagree with you.

I just don't like the term ghetto because it makes it seem like people choose where they're from, the circumstances they're in, and the vernacular they're taught to speak.

I know what you mean by ghetto, but I would not say that Staci had no class. She was always a pretty sweet person, even when Garnett and one other girl were horrible to her. Staci always remained polite, I'd say that was classy. Garnett's nasty attitude was not classy at all, yet she presented herself to be this upstanding young woman, but underneath she was awful. NOW Staci's nasty dancing at someon's party (I forget who) that was definitely tasteless, but overall I don't think she's really like that.

I think I know what you're saying, but I think it's less offensive if you just specify what behaviors you are speaking of and describe them with a different and more specific adjective.

So you said Lorrena is "ghetto" okay well, she was loud, rude, had an attitude problem and always wanted to fight. In my opinion I don't think I've said anything about Lorrena that would offend people because she was all of those things lol, but I didn't insult anyone else in the process. I think "ghetto" is just an insulting term.

Did that make sense? =0)

reply

Yeah I know where you're coming from cause sometimes I get mad when people call people ghetto. But it's mainly when people are trying to say ghetto equals black. Yeah I have always liked Staci...I was referring to how she was acting at those parties. When I use the term ghetto I don't mean to offend anyone in particular cause to me it doesn't matter where you're from or what race you are.
