Why do some many people think it's 'fake'

He doesn't claim to have magic powers or anything.
All he does is use techniques used for years by people who claim they have powers. He uses suggestion, misdirection, and a good knowledge of human nature. These things work. What about subliminal messages in music and advertisement? What about lie detectors, or any other equipment using subliminal movement? What about politicians, and other people in the public eye using suggestion to convince people. He uses similar means.
Not everyone is easily swayed by suggestion, and misdirection. Through the magic of television producers can cut out most of the unsuccessful pieces. That's not to say it's all luck; I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

If you are a skeptic... Obviously at some point a person has suggested you know enough not be taken in by something. You've been convinced not to believe someone can manipulate your free will.
If you don't believe in sociology, then you don't believe anything I've just said, but that's just ignorant.

Well said, I agree completely.

People who claim Derren is fake or hires actors, only do so because they base it upon their own dumb opinions (after watching about 1 episode) without any actual proof.

Of which there is none, because he is a genuine illusionist.

wait a second. shouldn't people come to the table with skepticism? it shouldn't be on the viewer to trust whatever is given to us as real, especially we are expected to believe is so out of the ordinary. He claims it's real, I find it hard to believe. I've seen a lot of illusionist be outed as using actors, to pull off these sorts of tricks. Given that track record, why would anyone blindly believe that this guy is legit? Thats not to say he is, or he isn't, but that you have to look at this with skepticism.

as for the subliminal messages in advertisements and music, studies have shown they have no effect. Lie detectors have nothing to do with suggestion, or making people believe what isn't true, it simply measures perspiration and heart rate. You're right about politicians though, they use a lot of subtle clues to express themselves. neutral or strong colors, posture, hand motions, etc. but nothing of that nature is strong enough to make people believe something that is clearly not true, or to act in a way that is bizarre for everyday life.

sociological clues can have an effect on people, but it's a gradual slow process.
