Why was John peel in the film

John Peel didnt even work for the NME or any Music publication
At the time of Joe Meek he would have been doing his national Service then after would have been in America
Also at the time of Meek, John Peel was still using his name John Ravenscroft

Another nag about going to see the film was the swearing
A large part of the audience was made up from people who was around when meek was doing his records and each swear word came out on the film i cringed at the thought of how the elderly audience members would take all the swearing. One or two people did walk out in the first hour as the first hour was a big overkill of the F-word etc

I was at a Q&A with Nick Moran last night and he explained this. He said that the words in the "Peel" interview were lifted verbatim from a music mag interview (but not with Peel). He said that he had taken very very few liberties with history throughout the film, and that he couldn't resist putting this in as a little tribute to JP.

I watched this on tv (it was on bbc last Christmas) and the closed captions said "John Hale" instead of "John Peel"

I was around at the time and believe me the swearing among that particular age group and social class was every bit as bad as portrayed in the film. It is much more authentic than in the dire "Rock The Boat" which seemed to be mimicking Eddie Murphy's 1980s Los Angeles rather than 1960s Britain.

Yes - I can back up what ntscuser has said. The swearing amoungst young, generally working class blokes at that time was as bad, if not worse than portrayed in this film.

Poor old Brian Epstein really had a job with the Beatles in the early days trying to get them not to cuss publicly.

As for this film, I thought it was OK but as others have pointed out, relies too much on shoe-horning in as many TV and other celeb "stars".

I blame Simon Pegg !!! Shawn Of The Dead is crammed with his TV pals as was Hot Fuzz.
