An interesting article on Simon Jordan's finances that contains a nugget about Telstar can be found here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/football_league/articl e7025712.ece

Telstar: The Joe Meek Story, a film released in 2008 starring Kevin Spacey, grossed no more than £64,651 at the UK box office. Jordan was its sole backer. "It has foreign territory sales and a big DVD release and we are working on deals for pay TV," he said. "Yes it cost me £2 million and I am going to be hard pushed to get my money back. But I will get a substantial part of it back as there is a demand for the film."

Will the canteen lady at Crystal Palace see anything from those foreign territory sales?

There was a complete cock up with its release here in the UK. Its a crying shame that the British film industry can't even release its home-made products properly. No wonder our film industry is down the plughole! Whats makes it worse is this is a really good film - although its last half hour is grim viewing. Lets hope it picks up and becomes a cult film in years to come.

Agree with you there.

Shocking marketing ruined this movie.

Couldn't believe how low key this was.

I'm suprised it made that much. I've just watched it on dvd as I love Kevin Spacey & Con O'Neill. Wish I hadn't bothered it was 15th rate from start to finish. Total crap. The prescence of the fat talentless a-hole James Cordon & the meat head of Eastenders were the final nails in the coffin.

ps) I heard a rumour that Thatcher liked the song - that should have been warning to leave well alone

Yes, Telstar was one of Maggie Thatcher's favourite tunes - think she said this when she was on the 'Desert Island Discs' radio show.
This movie was marketed terribly, but marketing costs money that the producers obviously didn't have.

If I'd known that that vulture liked it, coupled with the fact that the ever underwhelming Corden was in it, I wouldn't have watched it.

Corden aside (how does this guy keep getting work!?) it was a pretty good movie.

Well I paid money for the DVD. It was cheap but I would've paid more. A great film.
