Now I really am a believer: the Oscars are a joke

I don' t see many foreign films because I feel something gets lost in the written word. Sub-titles can only go so far. However, I just saw this film and I was riveted from beginning to end. Kristin Scott Thomas and Elsa Zylberstein give two of the most moving performances I've ever seen. It takes that calibre of acting to not have a foreign film get lost in translation, at least for me. So I decided to do some on-line inquiring, and was truly surprised, and almost ashamed, when I learned the film was not nominated for a Best Foreign Film Oscar, much less Scott Thomas' performance for Best Actress. Jeesh, who are these Academy voters and what the hell were they thinking?!

Do you know the Oscar competition for foreign film that year? No Oscars for this, but it was nominated for both the film and for Kristin as best actor at the Golden Globes. Also best film at BAFTA. So it's not like it went unnoticed.
