The heart of this movie is beating in 1984!

One word to describe this horrific movie: "BAD"

I saw the original at the theater in 1984 and I refused to watch this one. However, it came on one of the movie channels that we have. Since I already paid for the channel, I figured I would give the movie a try. After 5 minutes of torture, I turned it off and feel like I let the real 1984 movie down by viewing the 5 minutes of the new one that I did. The actors were just reading lines and not putting any effort into their roles.

It was sad that I could recite about 75% of the new movie's lines. No heart, no soul, no originality.

Hollywood, get some creativity and come up with something original please!!!

I give the 5 minutes of this movie a -5 out of 10 stars.

I could not agree more.

It copied 90% of the original, and what it DID change was all for the worse...much worse! (Figure-eight bus-races???)

The casting director must be a complete doofus because not ONE character was cast well. We're supposed to believe that Dennis Quaid could actually be a strict reverend? A dancer who had never acted before (and hardly even got to do any dancing by the way) as Ariel? And I was just hoping the whole way through that someone would kick Ren's pathetic ass. What an annoying lead with that GOD-AWFUL accent! (Was he supposed to be re-TAWD-ad?)

And the best part of the original was the songs. This one kept a few of the songs, but of course it had to replace the rest with extremely-lame ones, and it totally ruined most of the songs that they DID keep ("Holding out for a Hero" as a ballad???)

"Oh, I got a great idea--Let's bring in some country and rap-songs to broaden the audience"

PUKE!!!!!

I originally wrote my post in 2011 as I felt that I let 1984 down by watching 5 minutes of this BS.

UPDATE: It's 2016 and I still feel the same way. Too bad I can't "unsee" the 5 minutes I watched!!

It wasn't as bad as I expected and the two leads are talented dancers but the movie is forgettable and it will never be celebrated like the original.

The 84 movie had better acting and I agree with you on way more heart.

How can we expect to take your opinion seriously if you only watched 5 minutes of the movie??? Give me a break!
